It's been two days since Jimin and Lalisa had their little secret together. Jimin thought that Jeongguk would bombard him with questions as soon as he handed him the revised version of his investigation, but Jeongguk seemed to hardly care and just wanted to know at least the basics about Lalisa.
Imagine how relieved Jeongguk was to find out that Lalisa's not a psychotic maniac, a serial killer, or someone who has any criminal case in general. After that, he dismissed Jimin and carried on working.
Jeongguk came home at 12 AM, which was earlier than expected. He opens the door, just to be greeted by Lalisa, who is heavily sleeping on the couch. He closes the door behind him and locks it, taking off his uniform and leaving his white shirt behind.
He crouches down in front of her and stares at her features. The dim light accentuated her features in a majestic way that made her look ethereal. And like before, he admits that he did find her pretty. She fits his ideal type.
She seemed so delicate, very doll-like as if she was made of porcelain, which gives him the need to protect her. Yes, here he goes again with his humanly concern. He noticed that Lalisa's phone was still on, and she was playing classical music.
Probably for the baby, Jeongguk thought. And so, he gently grabbed Lalisa's phone from her grasp and turned it off for her. He suddenly contemplates what the universe had in store for him, considering that this woman in front of him just came into his life all of a sudden, claiming that he's a father.
He then remembers what he found in Lalisa's profile — that she lives in Seoul. He couldn't believe she traveled all the way to Busan, uncertain that he would even accept her and their child.
Jeongguk lightly hits his head. Their child. He even thought of that!
As one of the greatest policemen in Busan, he admits that he is a coward this time — he was scared to become a father. It all happened too fast. He's just shocked.
As if by instinct, when Lalisa first told him that she was pregnant with his child, he instantly knew that she was telling the truth. He had a gut that the child she was carrying was his from the very start.
He will take responsibility, that's for sure, with or without the paternity test; he knows that he'll end up taking care of Lalisa and their child.
He just needs some time to accept everything.
With a sigh, Jeongguk stood up and began to carry Lalisa, making sure that he did it as gently as possible. He makes his way to the guest room — or at this point, her room, and gently places her on her bed.
Jeongguk stared at her for a moment once again. He wanted to tell her something, but she was unsure how he should tell her. As he was contemplating, Lalisa's doe eyes warily fluttered open.
The male tried his best not to look surprised and simply looked at her. Lalisa gave him a woozy smile and began to sit up. "You're home," she tells him, a tiny yawn coming right after.
"I told you you shouldn't wait for me to come home," Jeongguk bluntly tells her.
"I told you, this is just how I am," she counters, glancing at the wall clock. "It's early, and I already dozed off?" Her brows started to furrow.
Jeongguk clears his throat to catch her attention, which he successfully does. "Have you eaten?" he asks her. He was inwardly screaming at himself.
Other than the ones associated with work, his mother, and Chaeyoung, he never shows concern for any other female being. And now, look at him, asking her if she has eaten.
At first, Jeongguk thought she would tease him, but then, "I have. You should eat, too. You can microwave the food in the refrigerator. I swear it'd still taste as good," she casually tells him.
