Chapter 5: A Million Things To Say

Atticus was confused of why Amelia didn't drink- most people he knew drank socially but he decided not question it just yet. He decided it was easiest to start with work and family.

"So what's your family like Ms. Shepherd?" Atticus asked, genuinely interested in the woman sitting in front of him. She began to explain her sisters and her brother along with her mother and sorta sisters but Atticus didn't hear a word, he was busy staring into those intoxicating blue eyes she had.

those damn blue eyes.

"What about you, tell me about your family." Amelia said, snapping Atticus out of the day dream he had fallen into listening to her. Her voice was soft and filled with joy and those blue eyes were all he could focus on.

"I have my parents, Eric and Maureen, you know my job already. I have an older brother Austin who is 34, and a younger sister who is 14 named Anastasia." The blonde haired man said. Amelia's family was interesting and had depth- his was just the same old same old every time he talked about them.

They began talking about what they would want to do if they didn't have the jobs they did, where was their favorite place to travel, what were their favorite brands. Amelia was intrigued by this man- his personality had layers and depth. She had one question on her mind- was he seeing anyone?

"So do you have a umm a girlfriend Mr. Lincoln?" Amelia asked nervously, not that she believed they could be anything she was just curious, that was all just curious. She still didn't know exactly what her and Owen were- Teddy was pregnant with his baby but they had Betty and Leo.

"No I don't Ms. Shepherd- do you have a boyfriend?" He asked, with some hope in his voice. He knew his past and he knew he wasn't exactly capable of being loved but he was open to trying to be loved.

"I do actually- it's complicated I guess." Amelia said as she put a fork full of spaghetti into her mouth. She could see the sparkle he had in his eyes was gone now. Maybe he really did want to date her or maybe they really had a shot.

The waiter care around and while Amelia expected them to have dessert or keep talking Atticus simply asked for the check, gave the man his tip and they left. He didn't put his arm with hers this time and when asked where to drop them off at Bruno was told.

"Take Dr. Shepherd back to Grey+Sloan Memorial Hospital Bruno and take me to the office." He said, with sadness in his voice. He knew people didn't exactly love him but maybe this new girl who barely knew who he was could have been different but she had a boyfriend it seemed.
