Chapter 12: Old Ties

Wednesday, October 3

Atticus and Amelia both had busy weeks this week. Amelia was swamped with surgery and Atticus had enough business meetings to make someone pull their hair out. He had one meeting all the way in Berlin, Germany.

Amelia had finally worked out her Owen situation. Betty went back to her parents, Owen kept Leo, Teddy and him agreed to date which made Amelia a free woman. She walked to the cafeteria with her usual group of friends to find them gossiping about something.

"You guys sound like a pact of teenagers, what is happening?" the neurosurgeon questioned her friends who all looked concerned for her.

"Your hot new man friend's ex girl friend is in town for something." Arizona stated, shrugging off how much this would panic Amelia- they weren't exactly exclusive. She explained she didn't want to bury herself in him. So she did what Amelia does best she worried. "What's the ex's name, how long did they date, do you think he still loves her?" Amelia questioned quickly.

"Kaitlyn Miller, longest relationship he's ever had- lasted a whole 5 1/2 years then they just ended it and no one ever told the media why." Jo Wilson explained while trying to swallow her food.

Atticus Lincoln boarded his private plane and jet set to Berlin. After many long hours of reading emails, sleeping, taking conference calls, a call from Amelia, a call from his family and a call from Kate or Kaitlyn as most know her. He was finally there. He got his luggage and Bruno drove him to his flat. He unpacked his 3 days of luggage and called Kate.

"I'm here, just finished unpacking. It's super late so I am going to sleep. Don't forget we have a breakfast date at 8:00 don't be late, I know you Kate. Set yourself an alarm don't make me give you a wake up call like Disney World." The ex boyfriend joked to his ex girlfriend.

"Oh hush it Atty, I am perfectly capable of getting up on my own. I don't need a wake up call and I won't be late. We have a lot to discuss and you have a lot to fill me in on. I could kill you though for making me come all the way to Berlin. I'll be at your flat at 7:30. Goodnight Atty." Kate said to her ex boyfriend as she walked around her hotel examining exactly where she was staying so she could figure out how to get from the hotel to the flat.

6:00 A.M

[Atticus' Flat]

Atticus' alarm went off and he pulled himself sleepily out of bed. His first task was to call Amelia and check in on her. They spoke for a very long time. While they spoke he brushed his teeth, combed his hair, picked out an outfit then the door had a knock on it.

[Kate's Hotel Room]

The alarm on Kate's phone went off and she immediately smacked it so it would turn off. She stood and stretched then walked herself into the bathroom. She washed her face, brushed her teeth. Curled her hair and did her makeup. Her phone rang from work and she talked on speaker phone while getting dressed.

She walked over to the closet and pulled out a simple pair of jeans, a white top and blue business jacket with gold buttons. She threw on her nude booties and ran out to her car with her purse and extra bag.

She knocked on the door and when Atticus opened it she smiled. She hugged him tightly while he hugged her back.

"God I've missed you Atty." She said practically melting into his arms.
