She found herself on the island of Ahch-To island being trained by a Jedi legend. He was unwilling at first. Reluctant to dig up the past that he had run away from. Luke Skywalker had turned his back on his faith and family. Now here was this young girl, handing him his old lightsaber.
           He stared down at it as the repressed memories came flooding back. He wanted nothing to do with it. He had run from the responsibilities and heartache when his nephew burnt down the Jedi Temple . He had failed his apprentice. There were dead bodies laying on the ground and he had assumed that Ben had killed them all and then fled. Directly into the open arms of Snoke. The guilt was to much and he vowed to himself he would never train another Jedi.
But Rey changed his mind. He saw her potential and asked her why she was on the island. She begged him to help her . She need answers to why she felt different. Something was waking in her and she was afraid.
Her connection to Kylo Ren flared open while she was on the island. He started appearing to her at the most inconvenient times. The first time she thought that he was really in her hut and shot at him, and he had reacted like he'd been hit but it was nothing. What was going on? They didn't know why or how it happened.
He 'visited' her again on a dark wild night. By the warmth of a small fire she unburdened herself to him. She had tried to hate him with everything she had , but it was proving to be useless. She felt completely at ease with him. He was a good listener and let her pour out her heart to him. He never interrupted or judged her. He knew exactly how she felt.
She told him that she had gone somewhere that was forbidden. Letting her curiosity and longing for answers lead her to follow the dark side down into a cave. She slipped and fell into a pit and splashed into a subterranean pool. She was drawn to a reflective wall that resembled a mirror. She looked at it as if it held the answers to all the questions that had been burning in her heart since she was abandoned as a child.
She begged it to allow her to see her parents. Two shadowy figures emerged from the depths of the mirror and walked closer to her then blended into one individual. He was tall and faceless. Disappointment coursed through her veins. No answers. She would leave the cave as empty as when she entered.
She felt more confused than ever. She needed to go back to her hut and never go back there again. Rey started a fire and sat in silence , brooding and more confused. She felt empty and cold, even with the cheerful fire burning brightly.
She sensed a presence in her hut , which startled her at first then the familiar feelings enveloped her. It was Kylo. She willed her heart to slow down and concentrate on him. She saw his eyes darken in concern, " your wet and shivering, what happened?" She had never heard him speak so gently before. She didn't need any prodding to unburden her heart to him. " I thought I'd find answers there, I was wrong." She was close to tears by then. "I've never felt so alone." She confessed . He felt compassion for someone for the first time in a long time. "Your not alone." The tears were falling freely down her face. She never heard those words from anyone before. "Neither are you." She knew he felt just as alone as herself. She wanted him to understand that it wasn't to late to come back , that he had her support.
Rey brought out her hand from underneath the blanket that was wrapped around her shoulders, and reached out to him. Ben looked down at her hand and pulled off his glove then reached out to her . She could read his face like a book. His expression was pure trust and yearning. Never had he felt so vulnerable and exposed. It was the most intimate interaction they had ever had with another human. It felt deeply familiar and right, like they had always known each other and somehow were lost. Torn apart by some cruel unseen  hand.
Rey gasped when she felt his fingertips press onto hers. His touch was warm but trembling. Suddenly a vision sprang into her mind that made the tears fall more freely. She saw a tall man, with light streaming down on top of his head. Kylo had turned from the dark to the light. He was Ben again. The vision closed . Ben starred at her, hardly comprehending someone would care for him that deeply.
                      Suddenly and unexpectedly they were interrupted by Luke who came barging into Rey's hut. The connection was severed, the tender moment lost. Seeing the scene, Luke jump to the wrong conclusion and assumed Kylo would seduce Rey to turn to the dark side. So wild was his fury that he tore Rey's hut to a pile of rubble. Rain poured down from the thunder racked sky. The ocean heaved and crashed against the cliffs. All the island caretakers were warm and safe in their huts. Why would Master Skywalker brave the harsh elements now? Did he sense a dark presence in Rey 's hut? He came to investigate and found Kylo Ren there. She needed to explain. If only he would listen! She needed answers too. The truth! "Is it true ?" She cried out through the rain, "Did you create Kylo Ren?"
                        She told him of her vision, but he didn't think he could be turned. He was to far gone . She was the only person now who could see the smallest flicker of light in him..........
Rey's memories take her to another scene with Ben. They had just defeated the Elite Praetorian guards. Their fighting in tandem, along side each other, protecting each other, won them the battle. He had just killed his own master, and saved Rey from him. He was his own man now, no more being controlled, no more being a attack dog on a leash. He can make own choices and be his own master.
                    Now it was just the two of them. They could rule the galaxy together. " Join me!" He reached out his hand to her. She looked at the offered hand and hesitates. He sees her falter . No he can't lose her support now! He had gone from telling her that he could take anything he wants from her , to begging. "Please" he says in a small whisper. She can't go with him and he can't stay with her. They are still on opposite side of a war. A war that's been fought long before either one of them was born. It wasn't fair. If they had met at any other time in the universe would they have been able to be together?
Maybe if she had taken his hand and become his queen, he might still be with her. She would have gone against her convictions but perhaps he could have turned even then. Maybe she'll never know.
