germany looked out at the view. a park full of people from all over the world, staring up at the makeshift stage, at him. people of all different races, sizes, genders, ethnicities, religions, sexualities, and everything. it was truly a marvelous sight. such different people, coming together to become one. all bunched together, they looked like a garten of flowers and birds. so many different colors, so many different sizes, so many different everythings.
and each one of them had their own story. they had their own life, their own background and personalities and beliefs and views of life. but they were all people.
he looked at them in awe. it was rare to see so many different types of people in one place. these kinds of speeches were not for everybody. not every person had the patience and the ability to sit down for hours and listen to somebody else speak their opinion.
germany respected that. but one of the most repeated lessons drilled into his head by his father, the third reich, was that you had to win the audience. you had to grab them with your words and persuade them to listen.
however this time was different. the german wasn't going to try to force any of his own beliefs on anybody else today. no, no. he had something much more important to tell them.

beside the park lay a calm and peaceful river. the night sky shone over it, while the moon's light reflected upon it. the minature waves sparkled when he laid his eyes on them. russia liked to sit here while his boyfriend was doing his thing. the small ripples mesmerized him, making it impossible to take his eyes off them.
today was an important day. well, an important evening that is. he and his lover had spent the beginning of the day making sure that everything was in place, in order and ready.
this evening was going to be the night where russia and germany publicly announced their love. all the tension would finally be released. they would finally be able to show affection and public and be open about their relationship.
to a normal human, such as the reader of this book, or i, the writer, this might not seem like a big deal. however, for country representatives, it was a different story. people from their homeland had certain expectations from them. they expected them to be straight and serious and smart and hardworking. they did not want the representative of their country to be something they did not approve of.
in both russia and germany, homophobia still existed and was still a big issue. germany, a calm and neat pansexual, might be a bit more accepted by his country. however, russia, a raging alcoholic bisexual from a very homophobic country, might not be so good for him.
either way, they hoped that by announcing to their homelands that they were together, things might become better for the LGBTQ+ community.
there was still a bit of time before the speech would really begin. russia wanted to be with his boyfriend and offer him support before the big moment, but the german refused. this left him stuck with watching the water.
he heard a microphone ring, his cue to come up to the platform to join his lover.
"willkommen, Damen und Herren," the familiar soft voice spoke into the microphone. "welcome, ladies and gentlemen" he repeated, this time in english.
russia made his way to the stage to stand beside germany, supporting him ans giving him a small thumbs up. the aryan gave a quick smile in return.
"i appreciate you all coming very very much." he began again. "for years and years, the LGBTQ+ community has faced discrimination and unfair treatment by others. being attracted to one of the same sex was once considered a crime, and in many places still is. in 14 countries, not only is being gay illegal, it also comes with a death penalty."

"some people jusitify this by saying that it is the will of god. that there are only two genders, and that one may only have love with one of the opposite sex. being gay is not a choice. being transgender is not a choice. you can't choose to "be gay for 24 hours ". no, you don't. just as how a woman may not have feelings for another woman just because she is not attracted to women. it's the same story, just the characters are switched up. you don't choose to be heterosexual, nor do you choose to be LGBTQ+ ."

germany snuck a quick glance at his russian, to find the tall country looking at him with supporting eyes, and admiring his bravery for standing up about this.

"love is still love. being attracted to the same gender does not change who you are, just as being attracted to the opposite gender does not change who you are. love is not a crime, it is a gift. do not be blind and let the gift go, just because it is thought of as wrong, and not the natural way of it. nature works as it does. you don't choose who you love."

"i'm sure that you all know the countryhuman representative of russia. "

murmers ran through the crowd, people anticipating what was going to be said next.

"at first he was like a brother to me. he was important to me, but not in the way that he is now. my heart decided that i love him, not me. i love russia. and i don't care that he is a man. if i love him, then i love him. it does not matter what his gender is. it does not matter what he believes in. it does not matter his race, sexuality, or anything else. it just matters that i do,"

"you're saying this as if we don't already know," somebody in the wave of people called. germany furrowed his eyebrows, confused. the human took notice of this and laughed. "ever heard of wattpad?"
