I was scrolling through my gallery in my phone while Virgil was walking around the living room. I was a wednesday, and we had already finished our classes for the day. I loved looking at the old pictures, it brought back so many memories from when I was a kid and...
"Hey, Pat? Can I... ask you a question?" Virgil wondered. I looked up at him. He looked really anxious.
"Sure, kiddo. Is something wrong?" He looked away and scratched his neck. He did that quite a lot, normally when he was feeling nervous.
"Well, there's nothing wrong... It's just- It's an uncomfortable topic to talk about," I was starting to get a bit concerned.
"If it's uncomfortable to you, you don't have to tell me Virge," I told him.
"No, no, it's not that. It's just... Well, I... this person... We meet just a few weeks ago, but I- I just- Uj! Just forget I said that. I'm just gonna go," Virgil was sweating a bit now. He put his hood up and started to walk away to his room, but I jumped off the couch and stopped him.
"Wait Virge. I want to help. Tell me what happens. If there is anything I can do to make you feel better, I will," I told him, smiling. He smiled back, but it was an anxious smile.
"Ok. I like this person I like..." He started. Was that the thing that was troubling him so much? Just a crush? I relaxed, "And we met just a few weeks ago. We are friends, share a few classes..:"
"Oh, so she's from college? Do I know her?" I asked. He looked even more anxious now.
"Well, more of less. Actually yes. But no. I mean, it's a he, not a she. I-"
"Oh, I'm so sorry Virgil! I shouldn't had assumed. Let me correct myself. Who is he?" Virgil looked less distressed now.
"Really? It's ok for you that I'm gay?" Virge asked, but it sounded more like a pledge.
"Of course kiddo! There's nothing wrong with that. Emile is non binary, and I'm bi myself. I have nothing against the lgbt community. Is that what all of this was about?" He nodded.
"More of less. That was just half of the problem. The other half is that I don't know what to do, or how to say it to him, or if I should tell him, or what will happen if I do and..."
"Virgil, don't worry, I'll help you. I'll me your personal wingman!" I exclaimed. He chuckled, "Do you want to tell me who he is?"
"I... not for now, really. The problem is that I don't know if he's gay, and I don't want to ruin our friendship," He explained.
"Ok, we can still work with that. You said that he was with you in one of your classes, right?" He nodded, "What you can do is ask him if he would like to study with you, and go to a date after class? Emile and Remy often go together to starbucks, and order some coffee and study together. You could do that together, and it doesn't have to be necessarily romantic! It's a casual place to go, and you could use the opportunity to get to know eachother better. What do you think?" I knew his response even before he answered me.
"Yes! That's a great idea Patton! Thank you!" He exclaimed. I decided to hug him. He seemed a bit uncomfortable at first, but then he returned my hug. I knew how difficult it was to come out to someone, and tell them about your feelings. I struggled with that constantly. And I knew from experience that hugs helped.
Sorry this chapter was short, but I need some sort of filling chapters because if not the story would go too fast, and I don't know what exactly to add here. I'm so happy that you stuck for this long. Until the next time, take it easy, guys gals and non binary pals!
