Emily sat on the left of Laura while Wade sat on the right. Across from them was Tony, they all spoke softly to themselves about what happened. Laura looked up and saw Tegan and Isla watching them from a distance, they looked at each other and then walked towards the table slowly. Laura looked at them, licking her lips as they approached. She was anxious, afraid from another confrontation.
"Hey, Laura" they said.
She smiled hard. "Hi".
"Uh, do you reckon we can sit with you guys? We don't really have anywhere else to sit anymore since-"
Laura looked down and then at the others. "Yeah, please sit down". They took off their bags and slid down onto the table and began talking amongst themselves. Laura interrupted. "How are you doing?"
"We've been better" Isla said.
"Yeah" added Tegan. "We are still trying to come to terms with all this".
"I know how you feel. Still dealing with Kasey and Vienna, you know" spoke Emily and Laura turned and looked at her and gave her a sweet smile. She turned back to Tegan and Isla but saw Sheriff Dewey walking towards her from across campus. She frowned. "Huh, I wonder what he wants" spoke Emily.
"Hey, Laura. I'm sorry to come here but I need to talk to you" he said.
She grabbed her bag and slowly stood up, smiling softly at her friends before turning away, they walked across the courtyard where she kept her head held down to avoid the looks coming from everyone around her. They entered the building and when they were alone Sheriff Dewey stopped her.
"How are you doing?"
"I'm coping, Sheriff".
He smiled softly and gently nodded. "I have someone who wants to talk to you. She thinks she can help".
"Who is it?"
"Just come with me" he guided her into the administration block where a private room was waiting.
Dewey knocked on the door then opened it and stepped inside. "This is Laura".
Sitting before her was Sidney Prescott, she looked up at Laura and smiled and stood up and walked towards her. She hugged her quickly then gestured for her to take a seat. Dewey nodded at Sidney then stepped out and closed the door, leaving them alone to talk. Sidney took one last glance at the door before speaking.
"Hi, I'm sorry I didn't think this over properly. I'm Sidney".
Laura replied softly. "I'm Laura. Why are we meeting?"
"Because I think I can help you" said Sidney to the girl before her who looked miserable. "I know how you feel".
"I don't know what to do, Ms Prescott-"
"Call me Sidney. We're friends".
"Sorry, Sidney. I don't know how to face this".
Sidney smiled softly at her and reached out and took her hand and squeezed it reassuringly. "Nor did I. It felt like I was just being dragged under and I couldn't do anything to pull myself back up". Laura nodded; she knew that feeling. "But you aren't alone, not like I was. I'm going to help".
"How?"
Sidney sighed. "We need to look at everybody in your life and just try and find the one who doesn't fit in. If this killer really is after you then he or she might already be a big part of your life".
Hearing that upset Laura greatly. "You think it's one of my friends?"
"I'm not saying that it is. But just be careful. I didn't think it would be my friends, but it was. I got fooled by three of my friends and it still haunts me" explained Sidney slowly, she wanted to try and lay it all out for Laura to take in. But there was only so much she could say. "Do you have a boyfriend?"
She shook her head. "No".
"Good. Brothers, sisters, cousins?"
She had to think for a moment. "I have cousins, but none that are close or live here. And I have a sister but she's not around anymore".
"Where does she live?" asked Sidney out of curiosity.
"She's in New York".
Sidney grimaced. "New York is a lovely place".
"You live there?" Laura asked.
"Yeah, I have for a while now".
Laura nodded and rubbed her arms.
"So, tell me about your friends".
Sidney watched her frown and then speak. "Where do I start?"
"From the beginning. Tell me about them".
"Oh, uh, okay" she giggled nervously. "There's Wade, he's my best friend and we've known each for so long. We were watching Halloween at my house when I got the phone call of Tony about Richmond being arrested".
"Who is Tony?"
"Tony is Wade's friend. They have been close, but Tony is best friends with Richmond" explained Laura.
"He was the one who was arrested?" Laura nodded. "What about Toby?"
"I made a mistake about him. I didn't mean to get him in trouble".
Sidney nodded. "I know. I wrongfully accused a man for the murder of my mother, when it was actually someone very close to me. I ruined his life".
"Cotton" Laura said, and Sidney nodded. "He knew you were sorry".
"I said I was sorry so many times I lost count" said Sidney from where she sat.
"When Cotton died, I couldn't help but feel responsible" she said softly. "He died because he wanted me and instead of giving me up Cotton didn't say a word".
"That was nice of him", Laura said. "And that was insensitive of me to say".
"Did you just-"
"Made it sound like I said he was nice to die for you" Laura said. "Which I didn't mean".
"I know you didn't" replied Sidney softly.
"I'm sorry about all your friends and your agents" Laura said.
Sidney nodded. "Thank you. Jennifer was sweet, she didn't deserve to die".
Laura's phone buzzed and she frowned and pulled it out of her pocket. She was expecting a phone call, but instead it was Wade texting her asking where she was. She ignored it and put the phone down on the desk. Sidney asked if it were important, she just shrugged and said it wasn't and they went back to talking. They spoke about the friends, the family and who they think could be playing what role.
Sidney didn't dare tell her about the stuff that had happened to her over the years. She didn't tell her how her boyfriend took her virginity or how his best friend tried to kill her. She never spoke of Billy, but she often thought back on Billy before everything went bad. When his mother hired Mickey to join her on killing Sidney, she believed that would be the final chapter in that story but when her half-brother Roman tried to kill her, she knew it would never be over. And when Jill tried to kill her, she knew that she'd never be safe.
Or free.
"Can I ask you a question?" asked Laura and Sidney nodded with a smile.
"How do you deal with all this?"
Sidney sighed and looked down at the table as she tapped her hand against the cool wooden surface.
"You know, I actually don't know how I keep doing this, but I don't see myself as a victim. I don't let that control me. I just see my past as a deep cut that is slowly healing and being forgotten" she spoke. "They key is to look forward to tomorrow and not back at today".
