"Y'know what we haven't done in awhile?" Taemin asked the class as he walked in fifteen minutes late. "Performed in front of anybody outside these walls." A smug smile took over his face before he sat down in his chair, putting his feet up on the desk. "I know some of you aren't going to like this...but technically I'm supposed to have some kind of performance in the curriculum—anyway, we're having a competition. You have this week to choreograph or learn a dance, then you will perform the dance for the class. Once you've all performed we will take a vote of the top three dancers. These three dancers will have the option to perform at the schools fall festival, and earn fifty extra credit points."The classroom buzzed with excitement at the mention of extra credit. One wrong step in one of your dances could drop you a whole letter grade with Taemin's grading system. Most of them needed that extra credit.
"I don't know why you're all standing here? Fifty points on the line! Go children, go!" Taemin yelled, shooing his students out of the classroom.
A smile spread across Jungwoo's lips as he grabbed his bag and hurried to his usual practice room. He had decided to do what he was best at which was slower, contemporary dances. Usually, picking the song was the most time consuming part, but he already had a song in mind.
He hooked his phone up to the speaker in the room and played the song he wanted, Maybe by Hui. Just sitting on the floor and listening though it once, Jungwoo closed his eyes and envisioned how he wanted to choreograph the dance.
A wave of excitement washed over him when he realized just how good he could make this. "You can win this." He whispered to himself in the mirror.
✨✨✨
"Jungwoo? Are you still here?" Lucas asked as he walked down the empty hallway outside of the practice rooms. He was just about to leave when he saw the light on in the room at the end of the hallway. Peeking into the window, he saw Jungwoo who was still extremely focused on his dance.
Lucas knocked on the door quietly, trying not to scare the boy. However, he still jumped, started by the sudden noise. His eyes widened slightly when he saw Lucas through the small window.
"Lucas?" He asked, opening the door to let him in.
"You weren't answering your phone so I assumed you were still here," he replied.
Jungwoo's chest was rising and falling at a quickened pace as he continued to pant quite loudly. "Sorry about that...I'm almost done, just a few more minutes."
Lucas's eyebrows knit together upon hearing the boys words, "Jungwoo, it's almost six, your class ended hours ago. Don't you think you should go back and rest?"
A small sigh came out of the boy, "No, Yukhei, I don't."
Lucas had never heard Jungwoo use that tone before and he wasn't quite sure what it meant. "I just don't want you to overwork yourself."
"I'm sorry are you a dancer?" Jungwoo snapped before walking over to his phone and pressing play again. "I just need like another half hour so I can get to the halfway mark." The boy completely tuned out his boyfriend and picked up where he left off in the song.
Lucas crossed his arms, a bit annoyed by the boy's stubbornness. Even though he was irritated, he did his best to repress it, knowing that Jungwoo was probably stressed out about this weeks assignment.
He gave Jungwoo a good ten minutes before walking over and unplugging his phone from the speaker. "I know you want to keep working on this, but you should really come eat something."
Squeezing his eyes shut, Jungwoo ignored the feeling in his stomach that made him want to cry. He really did want to go spend time with Lucas, but he had to make this perfect. "Just a little longer p—please."
The taller boy's features softened when he saw how Jungwoo's hands were trembling at his sides. Walking over to him, Lucas gently grabbed his hands, holding them gently in his own. "It's only Monday, darling, Taemin gives you a week for almost all your assignments. There's no need to rush."
For some reason, Lucas's sweet words make Jungwoo's bottom lip quiver. He leaned forward and placed his head on the younger's shoulder, trying to hide how upset he really was. In reality, time wasn't the problem, it was that Jungwoo was utterly unhappy with how he choreographed the dance today. It had been slowly eating him away all day because he just didn't know what to do.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset. I was just worried." Lucas said as he rubbed small comforting circles into Jungwoo's back.
"And I was really rude to you f—for no reason, I'm sorry too."
"Don't worry about it. How about we go back to my dorm and get something to eat, the you can tell me why you're so upset?" Lucas asked before placing a small kiss on Jungwoo's forehead.
The shorter boy sniffled slightly as he nodded. "Y—Yes please." He mumbled, interlocking his and Lucas's hand and holding onto it as if his life depended on it.
✨✨✨
There was no way Jungwoo could physically become more comfortable than he already was. His stomach was full, he was under a warm fluffy blanket, and he was laying down cuddling his boyfriend, how could that get any better?
"Do you want to talk about why you were so upset earlier?" Lucas asked softly as he ran his fingers through Jungwoo's hair.
A content sight slipped past Jungwoo's lips at the feeling. "I was frustrated because I didn't like how I choreographed the dance."
"You'll get it right, you always do. Just trust yourself."
"I know—I was just upset because I spent so much time working on it for nothing." He mumbled, leaning into Lucas's hand.
A small smile formed on Lucas's face, "I'm sure whatever you made was still amazing even if you didn't like it."
Jungwoo's cheeks turned a light pink at his boyfriends words. It had only been about two and a half weeks since they started dating, but somebody Lucas made him feel so special every single day. They spent a lot of time cuddling and kissing, making up for the time lost when they were just friends, but overall they hadn't changed that much. Jungwoo was starting to feel genuinely happy for the first time in awhile.
