"Shit—" Lucas whispered when his phone started ringing from the table next to Jungwoo's bed. The boy was still sound asleep next to him, and the younger really didn't want to wake him up.
Climbing over the sleeping boy and out of the bed, he grabbed his phone, not even bothering to look at the caller ID before answering.
"Hello? Yukhei honey I'm sorry it's so early, I just wanted to talk to you."
A smile spread across Lucas's face upon hearing the woman's comforting voice, "Hi mommy~"
She let out a small laugh at her son's response, "Are you free this weekend? You should come home, we miss you."
Lucas's eyes subconsciously wandered towards the sleeping boy as he curated his response, "I don't think I have any plans...and that sounds really nice."
"I feel like we haven't talked in ages, what've you been so busy with?" She asked softly.
The boy let out a nervous laugh, "Oh Y'know...school." There was a long pause as Lucas pondered something, "Mommy...uh when I come over can I talk to you about...something?"
"Of course honey, you can talk to me about anything. Your brothers at a sleepover tonight so we can talk about it over dinner if you would like?"
"That's perfect, see you tonight. See you tonight, I love you." He said quietly into the phone before hanging up. When he turned around again Jungwoo was sitting up, rubbing his eyes in the most adorable way.
"Who were you talkin' to?" He mumbled, still trying to fully wake up.
The younger walked over and sat on the bed, pulling the tired boy into his arms, "My mom, she asked me to come home for the weekend. Is that okay?"
A smile formed on Jungwoo's lips, "Of course, you haven't been home in a long time."
"I know, I miss my mommy."
"Aw poor baby~" Jungwoo cooed as he punched Lucas's cheek, "Do you want me to help you pack?"
"Yes please."
✨✨✨
"Mommy!" Lucas yelled excitedly at the sight of the familiar small woman once he opened the front door to his childhood home.
"Yukhei!" She mimicked, tackling him with a hug. She pulled away from him with a very critical expression on her face, "did you get taller again?"
The boy just shrugged, "I don't think I'll ever stop growing."
"Go put your stuff down," She told him, gesturing to the hallway that led to his room.
He listened to her and headed down the brightly lit hallway until he got to the blue painted door that he insisted on having in his early teenager. When he opened the door, he was flooded with years of nostalgia.
All of the years where he was young and carefree. The years when he ignored his sexuality so he could let older Lucas deal with it.
Looking at the pictures on the wall, he had to hold back a laugh that the pictures of him and Johnny from many years ago. He quickly took a picture on his phone and sent it to Johnny.
"Dinner's going to be ready in a few minutes," Mrs. Wong said softly as she appeared in the doorway.
He looked up at her from where he was sitting on his bed and smiled, "Thank you for making me dinner."
"Oh hush you're still my child, you may be old, but you're still my baby." She squeaked before running over to pinch his cheeks like she did every time Lucas came to visit.
"Mommm—not again!" Lucas whined as he tried to push her hands away from his face.
A frown formed on her face, "you're no fun."
✨✨✨
"Oh I almost forgot—" Mrs. Wong started while they were in the middle of their meal, "What did you need to talk about honey?"
Lucas felt all of the muscles in his body tense up when he remembered what he wanted to talk about in the first place. Was it too late to back out? "Oh...Uhm, I wanted to tell you that I'm...I'm gay."
There was an unreadable expression on her face for what felt like hours until the corners of her mouth turned upwards into a sweet smile. She reached across the table and placed a hand on top of her Son's trembling one. "Yukhei, I know you had a really hard childhood and you had to change so much about yourself just to get by; But you don't have to be scared anymore honey. You can be whatever you want and I'll always love you. You're more than perfect to me."
A lump had formed in Lucas's throat at his mother's words. His mother's acceptance to this part of him is all that he'd hoped for since he first figured out there was something different about him. He quickly brought a hand up to wipe at the tears that had managed to escape, "I guess now would be a good time to tell you that I also have a boyfriend."
The woman let out a small gasp, "Is he cute?"
Playfully rolling his eyes, Lucas nodded, "Of course he's cute. He's the cutest boy I've ever met."
"Well let's see some pictures then!" Mrs. Wong said excitedly.
✨✨✨
"You what!?" Jungwoo asked from the other side of the phone, shocked from his boyfriends previous statement.
"I came out to my mom and told her I had a boyfriend," Lucas repeated. "And it went really well, and I mean really well."
A small giggle came out of Jungwoo, "That's amazing Xuxi, I'm proud of you for telling her."
"Baby, you should come meet her some."
"I can't wait to meet her." Jungwoo said softly.
Lucas could hear his boyfriends voice gradually getting softer as he was most likely falling asleep while they were talking. "Your performance for the fall festival is next Wednesday right?"
Jungwoo let out a quiet, "mhm. I have to practice a lot this week."
"Baby, are you tired?"
There were a couple seconds of silence before the boy practically whispered, "Mmm, just a little."
Lucas couldn't help but smile at how cute the boy sounded. "I'll let you sleep then. Call me tomorrow?"
"Yeah, love you Yukhei." The elder mumbled sleepily before hanging up.
Lucas sat there completely frozen for what might have been minutes. "He just said love you..." he whispered to himself.
