Chapter Twenty-Two

A month has gone by the last appointment they still couldn't see much of anything, which Dr. Hunter assured them it was normal.

Gracie: "This is getting old. Either I'm pregnant, or I'm not."

Justice: "Chill out, Babe."

Gracie: "Really, Justice?"

Justice has been clingy lately, and it was driving her nuts. She had gone back to work, and he hovered over her there.

Justice: "We know that you are. Multiple tests have confirmed it."

Gracie: "I just want it over with already."

Justice: "I know."

Dr. Hunter came in.

Dr. Hunter: "Hey, guys. How are you?"

Gracie: "I'm ready to get this over with."

Dr. Hunter: "You've got a while yet, Sweetie."

Gracie: "Not the baby. This appointment."

Dr. Hunter: "Oh. Well, I don't need to do an exam. I do want to stay in here while the ultrasound is done."

Gracie: "Ok."

Dr. Hunter leaves to get the tech.

Justice: "Gracie, what is your problem?"

Gracie: "Let's see. My body feels weird all the time. I barely sleep; you follow me around like I'm going to break, and all I want is a bit of fucking peace."

Justice: "Am I making you that miserable?"

Gracie: "Yes!"

Justice: "I can go, Gracie. I don't have to be here."

Gracie: "This is where I do want you. I need you to stop following me everywhere. If something is going to happen, it's going to happen."

Justice: "I'm scared, Gracie."

Gracie: "YOU THINK I'M NOT?"

Justice leans forward and puts his head in his hands. The door opens.

Dr. Hunter: "Everything ok in here?"

Gracie: "Yes."

Dr. Hunter: "I heard you shouting, Gracie. Are you sure?"

Gracie: "Yes, we're fine. Can we just get this over with?"

Dr. Hunter: "Yes. She's going to do the scan."

The tech does the scan as Dr. hunter watches.

Dr. Hunter: "Ohh."

Justice: "What?"

Dr. Hunter: "Definitely pregnant."

Gracie: "You see it now."

Dr. Hunter: "I see them now."

Justice: "Them?"

Gracie: "Them?"

Dr. Hunter: "Yes. You're having twins."

Gracie: "Holy shit."

Dr. Hunter: "We're really going to need to monitor this."
