Joellen's POV

Ed and I fly to the castle in silence. Ed is being carried by his griffin while I am riding mine. Eventually we both see the castle and and I take a deep breathe. There are two side by side towers, watch towers. This is the only part of the plan that Ed and I would be separated.

Chess and I fly to the tower next to Ed and silently land on the top. A few stones break, grabbing the attention on the watchman but we hide from his view until he turns around again. Chess quickly grabs him and takes him out, allowing me to drop down and take his place. I quickly chain lock the door so no one can use this tower and hop back on Chess to join Ed in the next tower.

Chess drops me off next to Ed and then flies off to join the others for the next part of the attack. I quickly go to stand beside Ed. "Tower's chain locked." I quietly informed him. He nods to me and then we both look over the side of the tower. My breathing hitches a little and a back away from the edge. Ed holds out his torch and starts signaling the troops. I catch a slight glimpse of the griffin party, led by mine and Ed's griffins. They're carrying the rest of the "royals" to the castle. The Narnian troops shouldn't be far behind.

I look over to the left again and see Peter, Susan, and Cas land on the ground. I smile to myself knowing that the plan was working so far, now let's just hope it stays that way.

-----

Both Ed an I are watching for our signal when I hear something crash from down below. I quickly look over to him. "What was that?" I whispered. "Uh... I kinda... maybe... dropped my torch..." Ed whispers back with with a nervous smile. My eyes widen at this. "You what?!" I whisper yell at him. "I'm sorry! It just fell out of my hand!" Ed responds, defending himself. "Are you sure that your brain didn't fall out of your head?!" I retorted.

I quickly looked over the edge to see where the torch fell only to see a two soldiers messing with it. We hear the warning bells start to ring and we both look at the other, knowing the plan has gone wrong. Knowing that them messing with the item is confusing our troops, I quickly jump down onto one of the soldiers, Ed following my actions a second later. We all drawl our swords and begin to fight.

As we continue to fight I hear someone call for us. "Now, Ed, now! Signal the troops!" Peter yells to him. "I'm a bit busy, Pete!" Ed calls back. I finally disarm and stab the man I am fighting and gran the torch. I hear a clang next to me and find it to be Ed's sword. I quickly call out his name and throw him the torch, hoping he can use it somehow. Ed gets it and quickly knocks out the man fighting him. He looks back down to the torch, finding that it's not turning on, "Oh no..." he says. He tries to hit it and it blinks a few times. I look over to see the bridge coming down but also soldiers piling out of the castle. I look back just in time to see Ed get the torch working again. He quickly signals the troops and then turns back to me. "Thanks, Joe." He gestures to his torch. "No problem Ed. Now let's go, we have to get to the gate. "

-----

Ed and I climb up over a roof and see all the commotion we're hearing. Creatures and Telmarines fighting and we see archers start to line the sides of the of the walls... or at least I did. I see a soldier stop in front of us and before I knew it, Ed was jumping over to stop him, unaware of the other ten beside him. I see him knock him out as I jump over. Both Peter and I call out his name, warning him of the other archers. He looks over to see the other archers take aim at him just as I make it to him. I quickly push him into a nearby room and follow him, only to turn back to close the door. I hear the arrows get released just I start to close the door behind us.

I close the door and lock it as quick as I possibly could. Arrows pierce the door, protecting us from most of the arrows. Key word: most. One arrow successfully made it through before the door got closed... an excruciating pain shoots through my body and I quickly look down to see an arrow lodged in my stomach... I feel my body start to get heavier...

Edmund's POV

I groan in frustration as I get up off the floor. I'm so stupid! I should've paid more attention before I slide down and kicked that guy. I turn to Joe who is still is facing towards the door with her hands on it. "Thanks once again, Joe. You okay?" I ask her, my shoulder still hurting from her pushing me out of the way. She hasn't responded and is still looking at the door. "Joe?" I call out.

Again, no response. I quickly go up to see and grab her shoulder. I spin her around to face me only to see her eyes in panic. Fear comes over me and I start to say her name again but stop as soon as I spot the arrow in her stomach.

"Joe!" I call out with panic, she quickly looses her footing and starts to fall but I quickly grab her. "No, no, no!" I cry out, my eyes frantically looking at the arrow. "Ed..." She quietly scrambles out, I look back up to her eyes to see tears forming. "This is all my fault!" I cry out. "Hey... it's... it's okay." She weakly says. "No! It's not okay, I can't loose you!" I pull her closer to me.

"Hey, you n-need to get back to- to the fight, Narnia is co-counting on you. " Joe says with struggle. "No, I'm not leaving you. I- I won't leave you." I tell her.

"Hey, there's s-something I need to- to tell you." She breathes out, her voice going quieter by the second. "Can it wait? You need to save your breath." I tell her. Joe shakes her head and pulls me closer. "Can I s-show you?" She asks. I nod and she pulls my head down to hers and places our lips together. At first I'm shocked but then I close my eyes and melt into the kiss. I feel her pull back. "I love you... I k-know we haven't known e-each other long, b-but I love you..." She breathes out, only for her body to go limp the moment after.

"No! No! You can't close your eyes on me! Joe!" I cry out. I quickly place my head on her chest to check her heart... it's still beating but it's fading...

Thinking fast, I quickly place her down and go the widow and lean out slightly, I put my fingers up to the lips and whistle Chess' calling tone as loud as I could. Not a few moments later he appears and I back away so he can fly in.

"Your Majesty?" Chess asks me. I quickly run over to Joe and pick her up. "Oh, Aslan..." Chess breathes out. "Take her to Lucy, she'll know what to do, please be careful, please..." I beg him. I hand her over to him, giving her a small kiss on the forehead. He nods and wraps his claws around her before taking off into the night towards the How...

Oh, Aslan... please let her live. I beg you...
