Maya drove her car to a small house, situated on the outskirts of the lights city, Mumbai. The sky is covering itself with the velvety black blanket by the time she reached the destination, where she can fetch answers for the unanswered questions of the unraveled past.
Entering into the gates, of the house, which is a farmhouse, she dialed a number, which went unanswered after the last ring. Groaning, she dragged her feet towards the door, rubbing her sweaty palms together, she rang the doorbell. After a few seconds, the door was opened, giving way for her to see a silhouette in dark.
"You?" Came a male voice, in a raspy tone, leaving a puff of smoke he dragged before unbolting the door.
Maya's face scrunched up, as she saw him in night light after he switched on the lights, ushering her inside.
He was clad in a vest and cargo shorts, with a cigarette between his fingers, loathing her presence, which was written on his face.
"Why are you here?" He questioned her while she was seated on a single couch.
"Why aren't you picking my calls?" She questioned, scrutinizing him, who's uninterested in making a conversation.
"I don't think no one will ever after the repercussions, caused by you, that day!" He said, taking a long drag of his cigar.
Maya snorted at him, before drowning in her phone. Searching for a picture of Avni on every possible social site, she groaned after not finding even one for her fortune.
"Ugh... I should have checked it before!" She muttered under her breath before glancing at the guy, who sat on the couch, nonchalantly.
"I..." "Before you want anything from me, let me make this clear to you, that, I'm not going to do anything for you!" He clarified, looking her straight in the eye.
Lifting her brows, she stared at him for a second, before shuffling through her handbag.
Signing on a blank check, Maya placed that on the coffee table in front of her, gesturing him to take.
Well, who would say no to a blank check? None with their full senses. His hands itched, so he took it with a glint in his eyes.
"What's that important matter that, Maya Jai Singh, herself came all the way to just see a private detective, who's on a long leave?" He smirked, smelling the check.
"You've to get information about, Avni, Chairperson of Aashini Publications. Every Detail of hers matters to me." Maya warned, before standing in her place.
Marching towards the door, she dismissed the topic but turned around when she heard him call her.
"Someone is in grave danger! Did they try to poke Ms.Jai Singh's boyfriend?" He questioned with the same smirk lingering on his face which vanished with her scream.
"Akshay! Just do what you were told! Otherwise, your fate will repeat the same with your pitiful life!" She threatened him with her index finger pointed at Akshay, who chuckled at her.
"It is what you see, Maya! My life isn't pitiful. But, you think it like that and I won't object also. Cause, all you see is what your brain wants to see! So, it's okay!" He remarked, waving his hand in the air.
"Akshay..." "How do you find me here?" He cut her across, with a sly smile.
"It isn't difficult as this is your hiding place, since the college days. Whenever you are scared, this is the place you visit, right!" Maya smirked, as the flashes of the past hit her.
Akshay's face lost its colors at the mention making him grit his teeth. Nevertheless, he controlled himself, not to choke her to death. The Devil in Disguise. She's a hell on earth. Only Akshay knows the obsession and the longing she has for Neil Khanna. Only he knows that she's the culprit of many innocents who lost their careers, lives, and some, only God knows.
He grunted, striding towards her, who's stood there with a sly smile on her face.
"Leave..." He gritted his teeth, clutching the door.
Maya couldn't help but punch him on the face, mentally. If she did it at the instance, she couldn't get what she's in the search of! She has to know who's this Avni and what she's up to.
Her face fell, sighing, as the day finally took its toll on her. Moving out, she gripped her phone in her hands tight, as everything flashed across her. From when she first met Avni, to till today.
Leaning on her car door, Maya shuddered under the cold winter breeze. Rubbing her both palms together, she glanced at the starry sky, which brought tears in her orbs.
