7: Puppy!!!...FROM HELL!!!

KEVIN'S POV

I held Fuzzy (as Alice had so graciously named our new dog) out to Max's face. Fuzzy let out a yawn and a sigh, his squishy little golden retriever face folding over. Piper's heart must have melted at the sight, because she rushed over and hugged Fuzzy (probably harder than I had ever seen her hug Jack).

"You got a dog!" she cried, plopping Fuzzy onto the smooth floor. Fuzzy yawned and galloped around her feet a couple times, letting out little yips.

"Yeah, we picked him up off of the side of the street. A dogcatcher was about to get him. He seemed abandoned, so we decided to take him in," Alice said.

So now we were four demigods, a ghost, and a golden retriever. I brushed back the fur on Fuzzy's little head. Piper and I had a natural knack with animals, being children of nature gods. Suddenly, there was a loud banging on the door. Max walked over and opened it and Mr. Kiase stormed in, his face a mixture of fear and rage.

"NO ANIMALS IN THE CHATEAU!!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS THING IS?!?!" he screamed, grabbing Fuzzy by the scruff of the neck.

"Stop that!" Piper screamed, but Mr. Kiase hauled Fuzzy out into the hall. Piper tried to tangle him up with some vines, but Mr. Kiase waved his hand and his shadows sliced the vines apart.

We followed Mr. Kiase outside. Mr. Kiase gave a cry of rage and raised the puppy high into the air, preparing to toss it onto the ground. Piper screamed, but it was too late. Mr. Kiase flung the puppy onto the ground and the little animal landed on the grass with a crunch.

"WHAT DID YOU DO?!" I yelled.

"Exactly what needed to be done! THAT THING IS NOT A PUPPY!" Mr. Kiase cried.

And in fact, it wasn't. Fuzzy was standing up shakily. No ordinary puppy would have been able to do that. The puppy gave a snarl, but the growl seemed like it was coming from the throats of a thousand dogs, not just Fuzzy. And then the killer hit us. Fuzzy's eyes turned red.

"I'm astonished you naive children didn't notice it before! This dog is millenia of years old, older than you or me! It was a trap! Watcher wanted you to pick this dog up, so he threw it right into your hands! Now, draw your weapons, children because we're about to be in a fight for our lives," Mr. Kiase said, pulling the top off of his cane and taking out a thin sword from inside of it.

I drew my tomahawk. The other members of the team drew their respective weapons as well. A fighting force of Skeletons led by Silas came up to our side, all armed with Uzis. Fuzzy was now swelling in size, growing bigger and bigger by the minute. His fur was getting darker and turning brown-black. His teeth got longer, sprouting into fangs.

"This is Garm, the hound of Norse mythology that guards the gates of Nilfheim, also known as the Underworld! I don't know how Watcher managed to tame this beast, but it's possibly more powerful than even a god! Get ready for one of the biggest fights you've ever been in," Silas said.

Fuzzy was now massive: at least half the size of the chateau. He gave a roar that shook the earth. The whole chateau trembled, and I nearly was knocked off of my feet. Fuzzy barked once and rushed us. Silas gave a chopping motion with his hand and the Skeleton force split in two: one half going for the dog's left foot and the other group, including Silas, going for his right one. Mr. Kiase leaped into the air, creating a shadow pillar to boost him up. He went for Garm's head.

As for us, we just...ran at the dog and started chopping whatever we could find. I rushed at his left leg and chopped downwards, but my tomahawk barely got through the thick fur. Piper was right beside me, firing arrows into his leg as well, but with little effect. The Skeletons had drawn their guns and were letting them rip, but barely anything was happening. On the right leg, Silas was flinging coins and Jack and Max were stabbing, but little was happening.

I clapped my hands together and two massive blocks of rock rose out of the ground and clapped shut on Garm's leg. Fuzzy gave a howl and pulled his paw back, smashing out of the rock and into several Skeletons. Two more of the unded soldiers were downed by the chunks of rock that went flying when Garm hit the rock. Note to self: rock on giant dog isn't such a good idea.

"I have a plan! Kevin, I need you and Mr. Kiase to distract him!" Piper yelled. I gave a grumble, but nodded.

I sheathed my weapon, angle my hands plam-downwards and the ground and thrust them out. A pillar of stone rose from th eground under me and carried to me high into the air, so I was level with the dog's head. Garm was slowly advancing on the chateau, and he was turning around so that his massive tail could smash some of it. Mr. Kiase was flinging shadow bolts at Garm's eyes, but Garm kept closing his eyelids so that the bolts didn't do much.

"Mr. Kiase!" I yelled from my pillar. The son of Hades nodded, flinging another ineffective bolt from his cane-sword at the massive dog.

"What makes dogs angry?" Mr. Kiase asked calmly as he ducked under a paw swipe from the huge dog. I got low too, and the furry body part went over my head as well. Fuzzy brought his paw back down, shaking the ground. He was 3/4 of the way to the chateau.

"Alright, the plan's ready! Alice, go ahead! Mr. Kiase and Kevin, get back!" Piper called from under us.

Mr. Kiase and I both stomped on our pillars at the same time and we started sinking back to ground level. Garm looked at us as we fell, barking. Suddenly, Alice darted in front of his face, flying in her body puppet.

"Hungry, big guy?" she asked.

Garm gave a growl and lunged forward, snapping at Alice. His jaws closed on her just as turned untouchable. Garm's teeth cracked down on empty air and he gave a growl of anger. Alice phased out of his mouth and went behind his head. Garm stopped walking and tried to bite her again, but Alice repeated the process, costantly yelling taunts and insults in British slang at the huge hound.

"Piper, now!" Jack cried.

Piper flung out her hand and a net of vines criss-crossed in between Garm's legs. Fuzzy stumbled around, and I added to her net with some vines of my own. Garm couldn't stand up, and he fell over, vines snapping beneath him. Piper, Max, and the surviving Skeletons on that side jumped back to avoid being crushed. Garm smashed into the ground, shaking the earth.

Alice then jetted into the sky, creating a massive crescent blade of her ghost energy. With a cry of anger, she hurled the blade right at Fuzzy's neck. There was a nasty shlock noise, and Garm's head fell off of the rest of his body. Both head and body exploded into a shower of black atoms. We had done it. Garm was dead...for now.

"We never should have gotten that puppy," I said to Mr. Kiase as I collapsed.
