Dad died a tragic and painful death. He died a selfless death. He was selfless and always did what was right as a policeman. Now that he was gone and I was further away, it ached to constantly know that he will never be with me.
Dad died like a brave soldier. Giving up his life for everyone's safety, inuding the Mayor's.
He died a hero.
He didn't need any physical superpowers, like Spider-Man. He had the power of bravery and determination.
It was odd to think that dad would've known to do such a thing, but it was too late. I went to his funeral. I saw his body. I watched him get buried. Six feet underground.
Sleeping peacefully.
After dad's death, mom was never the same. She was heart-broken and lost. Tangled up in her own emotions. Every night she'd cry or even when she looked at me, she'd say; "You remind me of Jeff. Oh, if only he were alive" and continue endless cycles of mourning.
Also after dad's death, mom and I left my home Brooklyn- the city I grew up in and headed for Harlem. A much bleaker and geographically different environment.
I had missed the cultural influence Brooklyn had on me. It had shaped me to be the guy that I am today. Now that I was living in Harlem, it was much more different.
It was like an insanely creased map. All the directions and locations were hard to work out. Being both physically and mentally lost had, had a major impact on my school life here.
The seemingly depressing tune hadn't ended for me that week either. My best friend and the only person who knew my secret, Ganke Lee, couldn't move into Harlem until two whole days later.
When I heard the news, I knew that it was gonna be a very slow and sad two days. I really needed his company right now. Shame he was on the other side of the line.
"Real sad you can't be here, bro. Miss you." I admitted, laid flat on my back on my new bed.
"I miss you too, man, but don't worry, when I come, we are so going to the fair." Chuckled Ganke from the other side of the super distant line.
"Fair?" I asked, frowning slightly.
"Yeah, dude. They're doing all sorts; dancing, snacks, spray painting- you name it." Resumed Ganke, knowing full-well that he had my attention at spray-painting.
"Spray-painting?" I repeated, sat up. "Count me in."
That had temporarily excited me. It still didn't mean that I would get over dad or the fact that mom is really upset.
"I'll see you soon, Miles." Finalised Ganke, now leaving me to watch the hold up button on my phone.
I realised that there would be so many events going on in Harlem. It seemed promising, but I really wasn't in the mood. I just needed to be alone for the next two days.
I needed to know that as well as using my Spider-powers as a force for good, I would also use it to avenge my never-forgotten dad.
For the time being, I needed to help my mom get ready for her public campaign. She was gonna run for Mayor in Harlem and I was really surprised.
My whole life, my mom was a teacher and adviser. Now, she had extended herself for a brand new career. She was ready for change.
I wasn't . I don't think I'll ever be.
♡Tysm for reading. Sorry the first chapter sounded depressing but, this will be an emotional rollercoaster.
