"I was really glad you called." Began Phin, holding her hot chocolate mug close to her end of the table. "I needed a break."

I was sat opposite her, with a pounding feel of worry and nervousness.

"For what?" I bluntly asked.

"Oh...just..stuff-" Hesitantly replied Phin, giving me a brand new look that was displaying various dark intentions.

"So, uh, I went to your folks' old shop." I started while playing with my hot chocolate mug. "Thought you might be there. Looked like there might have been some kind of fight just before I got there. I went inside, looked around. Found out about Rick."

Phin's face sank. She looked like she was about to cry. I didn't want her to, but the truth had to come out eventually.

"I'm so sorry." I continued.

"What else did you find out?" Asked Phin, raising her eyebrows with concern.

"I want to help you." I vaguely replied. She knew what I was on about. I didn't have to make it any clearer."But you gotta talk to me."

"I'm really sorry your mom got hurt at her rally. If that new Spider-Man hadn't shown up, everyone would have been fine." Began Phin, resting a hand behind her neck. "Please don't try to talk me put of this. I know what I'm doing."

"Okay." I obediently replied. Little did she know that she was helping me out with my plan to go against Roxxon.

"Good." She softly replied." So, that's my big secret. That's why I've been so busy. What's your excuse?"

I had fallen silent and had tried to avoid eye contact with her. I promised that we'd hide nothing else from each other. I needed to come up with a truthful answer and fast.

"Uh...Well, school, volunteering at F.E.A.S.T." I listed, now looking back at her with a small smile.

"Pfft! You're always busy with stuff like that." She stated, leaning back on her seat. "What's the real reason?"

"The real reason is...I've been taking on a lot more responsibilites than I can handle lately." I honestly replied, placing my hand on hers. "Made me push my friends away. But I'm here to fix that. Maybe I could join your...club?Crew? Team?"

"Uh, I don't know." Responded Phin, seizing her mug again. She looked really hurt. I didn't want to see her this way. She was awesome, but she needed to tell me what was going on.

"Y'know Rick was--he was the best." I insisted. "I get why you're doing this. If you want my help, I'm all in. If not, no worries, your secret's safe with me.

She had faced me again, this time with a more understanding expression.

"You're a good friend, Miles." Sweetly said Phin, while beginning to get up and walk away from the desk. "Hey, let's go."

"Where?" I asked. I was so confused.

Where was she taking me?

She had taken me outside onto a roof. I had followed her every move, ever since learning that she was the Tinkerer.

"You know I'm not good with heights." I expressed.

"You'll be fine. I'll be watching." Phin dismissively said, still walking ahead of me.

I didn't know what that was supposed to mean, but I wasn't intending to spend any more time to find out.

Phin had also told me that our hangout seemed more like a date. I guess it was. Sorta. I didn't know how to feel about it.

Was it? Was I falling for my best friend?

It was impossible. She and I were very different people.
