Chapter 61

A Warrior's Breath

"They're all dead. Well, not all of them. We still have that farmer's son and Percy's brother."

"But the king killed the farmer, right? Because his son failed to bring the founder home. Plus, him and Percy's brother are both trapped on Paradis."

"Percy's brother joined the Eldians. That's why he is in danger once he comes back here. They are the only remaining warriors sent by the government."

Jiro woke up at the middle of the night for an unsure reason. He just felt like he needs to check Axel's crystal if nothing bad happened to it.

He went out of the barracks they are staying in, quietly sneaking to the basement where they kept Axel.

He gently pull the door, careful not to wake anyone up. When he succeeded, he went down with a candle in his hand. He entered the room where Axel is stored. After months of staying inside the crystal, he is still the same and not aged or grew his hair longer.

"How can I undo this crystal? We really need informations about where you came from." He said as he placed his palm on the cold crystal. Suddenly, a spark from the friction of him rubbing the fascets sets him off.

He winces as he looks at his index finger, bleeding from the small cut he got. He looks at the crystal, and it seems like it absorbed the droplets of blood from his wound.

He shrugs what just happened before letting out a sigh. He then went back to the barracks before he gets caught sneeking without the captain's permission.

The next morning, Lev assigned one scout to check on the crystal. Jiro forgot to put the lock back so Lev was furious to know that someone had sneaked late at night.

"Now, who sneaked out last night?" He said as soon as he gathers the scouts. The original scouts, I must say.

No one dared to speak because they are confused as well. But Hanes asked if Amir went out last night, but the boy just denied and told her that he was sleeping soundly.

Lev kept them inside the room, and soon starts to tell them to never disobey rules again.

Back to the scout who got sent to the basement, he unlocks the door leading to the room. When he did so, he noticed something was not right.

Fragments of broken pieces of crystals were on the floor, with some who looks like it was melted. He scratches his head before seeing the droplets a person leaves when he is soaking wet.

He follows the tracks, leading into a closet. He was hesitating to open it at first, scared that Axel might kill him. When he gathers all the couraged, he opened the closet, only to see no one.

He sighed in relief before turning around. He was shocked to see Axel tying his mid shoulder length hair. The warrior sighed before looking at him with a cold expression.

Back at the barracks, Jiro and the others are eating peacefully when Amir suddenly felt a tingling sensation in his tongue.

"Amir, stop wiggling around." Yukan said. The boy just nod before looking outside the window. He heaves a deep sigh before continuing his feast.

The crowd was too busy to notice a potential threat roaming around their district. He's in search for something, or should he say someone. The founder.
