" Freshman, I'm putting my trust in you." Lani's coach directed to her. They were trailing by a point and there was only a minute left in the game.
" I gotchu coach." she responded, running to the table so that she could get swapped in.
To say Lani was nervous was an understatement.
They passed the ball back in forth trying to run the clock out and they finally passed it to her. She dribbled once stepping into the shot , pushing the ball from her fingertips.
As soon as she release the ball she heard the buzzer and the refs whistle, confusing her. But she didn't have enough time to think , because her teammates and coach came running up to her hugging her.
She made the three.
" That's it Georgia State Panthers. The Clark Atlanta Panthers take the win 102-98. And freshman Kelani Brewster with the winning shot." The announcer announced.
Once all of her teammates started dispersing she was embraced by Morgan, Royal, Samir, and Camden. Dae Dae would've been here but he had a family emergency and he had to head to Kingsland.
" Good job mini Cooper." Cam said, giving her a dap. Once he realized how good she was at basketball he started referring to her as Mini Cooper or Little miss Candace.
"Thanks bird head." she responded. The rest of the group congratulated her and then she felt a tap on her shoulder.
" Congrats super star." she heard, and it was Dae Dae
" Omg." she said, covering her mouth and dancing in place.
" You said you had to go back home. I knew I shouldn't have believed your lying ass." she said, slapping his chest.
" You really thought I was gone miss your game ? " he asked, and she just shrugged. They hugged for a minute until her coach pulled her to the side.
" A interview ? with me ?" she questioned.
" Yes , you saved the game and you played incredible defense today." her coach assured. She told her friends before she went over to the interview table.
" What's up ESPN tonight we have Shooting Guard, Kelani Brewster with us." the interviewer said.
" So how are you feeling Kelani ? You won the game for your team and played some impeccable defense out there."
" I feel good, I played my part as a member on my team." she responded.
" Very humble, I like that." he said, before Lani intervened.
" I get that from my parents." she chuckled.
" Was there a point in the game you were like we're going to loose this game ?"
" No. I was just very nervous for our team. Then when Coach Payton put me in the game and told me the play I was even more nervous because it was like the whole team was counting on me." Lani responded.
" What does this moment feel like for you ?"
" It feels good, knowing that I helped my team win the game. Of course I'd be happy even if someone else on the team would've scored, but it's like a different kind of happiness." she said, the smile never leaving her face.
