Morgan White
---------------------------------It had been almost a month since Morgan found out about her dad , and she was still conflicted. She hadn't told anyone else about it, because she was scared. But today was the day she changed that.
Her dad had started coming to her job daily trying to talk to her , so to hold him she just gave him her number. He made sure to text her every morning and every night letting her know how much he loved her and her brother and that he'd never forgot about them. Morgan often felt bad because she never told him she loved him too. But she just couldn't find it in her heart to tell him when she didn't even mean it.
" Granny." she said, peaking her head into her room.
" Yes sweetheart. You can come in you know." her grandma responded, and with that she walked into the room sitting at the edge of the bed.
" I need to ask you something and I need you to please be honest with me." Morgan said, looking into her grandmothers light brown eyes.
" Ok, Morgan." she nodded.
" Do you know what happened to my dad ?" she wondered.
" No. All I know is one day he was with your mama and the next he wasn't. I asked her but she never told me, she always changed the subject. It seemed like after he left she just closed all of her emotions off." her grandma shrugged.
" Why you ask ?" her grandma asked.
" No reason, I'm just curious." Morgan answered, shrugging her shoulders.
" Well if it's anything else you need for me to answer, I'm willing to answer anything." her grandma said, with a smile.
" As of now I don't have anything. But I'm about to go driving for a little. I love you." Morgan said, kissing her head. Her grandma responded , kissing her on the forehead before Morgan headed out. She wasn't really just going driving, she was going to see her mom, but she knew her grandma wouldn't be to happy about that so she just left it at driving.
This was part of the reason she was putting it off for so long. She hadn't seen or spoken to her since she convinced her to let Mari stay with their grandmother. Her mother didn't even try to call, text, nothing. Morgan wasn't on the best terms with her mom , but she still loved her and for her not to reach out not once was hurting her.
When she pulled up she didn't even remember the place she one called home. If she didn't know any better she would've thought that the house was abandoned. The front two windows were busted, the tiles on the house were falling off, and the grass was abnormally high.
Morgan took a deep breath in before knocking on the door. At the first two knocks her mom didn't answer but after 3 or 4 more she finally came to the door.
" Look at that , the kettle decided to come running back to the pot." her mom, Sheila, said, widening the door for her to come in. Morgan rolled her eyes before stepping into the house.
" What brings you here ? Grandma not treating you like a princess ?" Sheila chuckled bitterly.
" Actually no. I came here to ask you a few questions and then I'll be on my merry ole way." Morgan said.
" Hurry up I don't have all damn day." she said.
" What happened to dad ? And don't tell me that he just up and left us, because me and you both know that's not what actually happened." Morgan said.
" So since you know so damn much, how about you tell me what the fuck happened to him." her mom, said whipping her neck to the side.
" I heard that you sent him to jail for something that he didn't do. I'm just trying to figure out if its the truth or not."Morgan said , in a very respectful tone.
" You wanna know what happened to that son of a bitch, well I'll tell you." Sheila said, and Morgan just stared at her.
" He wanted to leave me and take Mari and you with him and I wasn't having that. I didn't want him to take my kids, so I called the police on him to make sure that he couldn't have the chance to see y'all. One of the best decisions I ever made."
Wrong. Morgan thought to herself.
" I had to think of something that would put him in jail without needing much evidence. Domestic Violence was the easiest one, I marked myself up pretty bad and went to the police, even took pictures just to show how badly I was beaten up. After that he went to jail and they sentenced him for 15 years." Sheila shrugged, as if it was nothing.
Instead of arguing with her mom or even expressing how she felt and how that made her feel, she just decided upon leaving. The only emotions Morgan felt was sadness and anger.
Morgan wanted her father in her life so desperately. Every time her mom beat her to blood and bruises, she would cry and cry praying that her dad would come save her. She couldn't understand why someone would want to hurt their children so bad. She wanted a father daughter relationship so much, especially after she became friends with Lani and Royal and got to watch them interact with their own fathers. A part of her felt jealous of them and their relationships.
As she drove she could only think of the countless times as a child she would ask for her father and all her mom did was fill her head up with lies. She'd always say he didn't want you anymore so he left. But deep down in her little heart she couldn't believe it, before he left her father was rapped around her finger. They had such a loving relationship, they were inseparable.
Her mom had caused her so much pain her lifetime that she couldn't even explain.
When Morgan went to college she was determined that she could just forget all about her mom, but she couldn't because that was her mom. She couldn't stand not talking to her because it hurt her so much. But for some reason she couldn't understand why she needed to talk to her or why she couldn't just let her go, when her mother wouldn't even think twice about causing her more damage.
Morgan never even told anyone about how her mom abused her. She loved her mom so much , and she didn't want her to have to go away. Little young naive Morgan just hoped that her mom would go back to the way she used to be before her dad left. She was so sweet and kind , they were like best friends. But after he was gone, her mom seemed to just want to hurt Morgan more and more.
At a point in time her mom had hurt her so bad, mentally that she turned to drugs and alcohol.
But this time Morgan was determined to let that dead weight go. Her mom was slowly , but surely breaking her down and if she continued to let her she'd probably go back to her old ways. She couldn't let her win this time though, she had so much to live for and she wouldn't let her or anyone else dictate her happiness.
She knew that in order for her life to get better and for her to feel better she had to let go of her dead weight, her mom. So she was closing this book and opening a new one, one that didn't involve her mother.
