"That potion is going to haunt me forever" Veronica sighed when the name of the love potion dropped from James' lips
"Why?" The boy asked raising his glasses
"It has ruined my life, my grandmother started it all giving that filthy potion to my grandfather, that muggle Tom Riddle" Veronica told him
She didn't know why she was opening up but James made her trust him. Only Sirius, Regulus and Narcissa knew that story.
"Wait, you're not a pureblood?" James asked
"Are you disgusted by it?" Veronica asked him
"Of course not, I just thought you were. You are friends with all the pureblood supremacists and hell, even your uncle is their leader" the boy was astonished, he would never, in a million years, think the Riddles were not purebloods
"Believe it or not, Voldemort is a half blood" The black haired girl said "I think being Heir of Slytherin makes up for it, but still that grandmother of mine made all my family not able to love" Veronica sighed
"You think it's a weakness" James said remembering their conversation in the Room of Requirement
"It is. People do stupid things for love" The girl said
"Someone will have to show you how to love. I think it makes you stronger" James stood even closer to Veronica as she let out a chuckle
"It has to be someone really stubborn to make me believe in love" she looked at his gorgeous blue eyes
"Someone will be stubborn enough" he said looking down at the girl and glancing at her lips
Veronica stood frozen, was he going to kiss her? Did she want to? Should she reject him?
But she was brought back from her thoughts when James lowered his head and whispered in her ear.
"By the way, I love hot chocolate" he whispered and gave her a quick kiss in the corner of her mouth and left
Veronica watched him go and stood there alone and shocked. If only she could see the smirk on his face.
"Bloody hell" she whispered walking back to the dungeons

Christmas came quickly and mostly all Hogwarts students were eager to see their families, this was not the case for Veronica Riddle.
Veronica saw her mother and brother waiting for her at the platform and she walked towards them with her head high and her posture straight.
"Hello mother" Veronica kissed her mother's cheek politely
"Sister! Ah, I missed you" her brother embraced her a hug.
"Missed you too, Nate" Veronica laughed softly
The ride to Riddle Manor was silent, but not too long. The house was built near bath, near Malfoy Manor which were now the Death Eaters headquarters.
The mansion was built to show everyone who the Riddles were. Decadent, big, expensive, dark and luxurious. Exactly how they wanted to be portrayed. It was unbelievable how her father had grown up in an orphanage with barely anything and now he loved there, showing that now, he had money.
Veronica sat down on her bed and sighed. It was going to be a long Christmas.

The days passed and they mainly consisted of Veronica and Nate chatting, going to Diagon Alley and wasting time while their mother prepared for the ball at Malfoy Manor.
Veronica had not even seen her father or uncle yet.
Veronica received owls from Narcissa, Sophia, Ophelia, Theodore and even from Regulus Black. But it was one owl that arrived that day that surprised her.

"Stop being a coward Prongs and send her the damn owl!" Sirius Black shouted
"Shut up Padfoot, let me read it again" James said
Sirius had been staying with James that Christmas and the latter had been re reading a letter he wanted to send Veronica Riddle for the last hour.
"It's not like you're asking her to marry you c'mon" Sirius groaned
"You don't understand, this is like...big" James said
"Okay, that's it" Sirius took the letter from James' hands and handed it to the owl
"Padfoot!"

James Potter wanted to see Veronica over Christmas break and lucky for me, she agreed to see him and she knew just the perfect place to meet and get away from her life for some time.
