4. Out on the high seas, a flotilla of the French royal navy caught sight of the mysterious and insidious red clouds above the island of Scala while on a training expedition in the western Mediterranean. The ever-growing sound of fire and explosions drew the captain to direct the fleet towards the island to pacify whatever was going on. Cannon mounted sailboats raced across the open water to within firing distance of the capital, with the captain again taking a spyglass to observe the situation.
On the roof of the royal palace, he could see a man in a red suit chanting from a book and unleashing monsters into the mortal world. Either it was a warlock or the Devil, but the captain did not want to wait and find out later. He decided to have troops sent ashore and for other ships of the flotilla to begin bombarding the island from the wreck of the old town harbor. Back on the isle, Ennio's skin began to change from immortal yellow to a quite mortal tan.
A large black vulture summoned by the Devil swooped down and carried the human off his feet up to the roof of the palace for an audience with its master. Ilaria led the final charge through the palace doors while Julian stayed outside to fight the Devil's minions and the attacking French forces, neither type of attacker able to pierce his bronze hide.
