Once I rose above the noise and confusion,
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion.
I was soaring ever higher,
But I flew too high.- Carry on my wayward son, Kansas.
She couldn't breathe. It was like her lungs were gonna burst.
Her breaths were coming out in short pants and her heart was beating erratically.
She gasped and shot up on the bed. Her chest was heaving up and down. She took deep breaths in, trying to get air to her lungs.
She didn't even need to glance at the clock to know what time it was.
She ran her hands down her face, and untangled herself from the sheets.
She noticed her hands.
They were green.
What?
Then she remembered.
She had put on a moisturizing face mask, and accidentally fell asleep.
Her stomach growled.
Must answer this call.
She got up from the bed and made her way downstairs.
The stairs creaked with her every step she took downwards on the staircase.
She entered the darkened grand foyer and crossed over towards the kitchen.
She hastily entered the kitchen and placed a pan full of milk on the stove.
As it was heating, she peeked out of the window. The window overlooked the front lawn.
She could hear crickets chirping.
But, the sound was too clear. She concluded that there must've been a lot of crickets out today.
The front lawn was trimmed neatly, and a stone path led to the huge main gates.
She then turned back to her milk, and removed it from the stove.
As she was searching for a mug, she felt cool breeze trailing up on her bare legs.
She pulled her sweater top down.
Weird.
She frowned and inspected around.
She suddenly froze. Her blood ran cold, and her heart was now once again beating rapidly.
The back door was wide open.
Suddenly, a crash could be heard from the laundry room, way towards the back of the house.
She jumped, and quickly swipped the huge kitchen knife from the counter, and ran madly towards her room.
As fast as her legs would allow her.
She could hear her loud heart beats. Her ears were ringing.
Like hell I will investigate.
As soon as she entered her room, she tightly shut the door behind her, and dashed towards her phone.
She tried dialling Miranda, but she just wasn't picking up.
After the third consecutive dial, she stopped.
Then she contemplated on calling the cops, but dismissed the idea, incase it was just an animal.
She absolutely did not want to embarrass herself. Also, she did not have any lead to believe intruding.
