And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love.
Grey clouds roll over the hills,
Bringing darkness from above.

- Pompeii, Bastille.

You're still alive. Right?

She laughed out loud at this.

She had just woken up a few minutes ago, and found an unread message.

It was from Mr Pretty Green eyes.

Yes.

She replied, and then went to take a shower.

After she was done with her breakfast, she checked her phone again.

There was no reply after that.

So, whatcha up to?

She hoped it was casual enough. She didn't want to appear desperate.

Even though she was desperately waiting for a reply.

After half an hour, she texted him again.

Are you still alive?

This time, the reply came ten minutes earlier than before.

I'm a little busy.

Nothing after that.

She decided not to say anything in return. It felt humiliating, to be shot down like that, and Maddy was embarrassed.

She didn't understand what went wrong.

She thought he was into her too.

But, his interactions always send mixed signals to her.

What was she supposed to think now?

It was early in the afternoon, so she resolved to calling Luke.

He picked up on the third ring.

"Hell-"

"Sorry, I was gonna facetime. By mistake, I voice called. I'm gonna hang up now." She quickly exclaimed.

"Oka-"

She then facetimed him, and he picked up on the third ring.

"Hell-o" he grinned.

"To what do I owe this pleasure?" He asked her.

His brown headboard was behind him, and he was wearing his white sweatshirt. So, Maddy concluded he must be free at the moment.

She rolled her eyes at him,"You don't".

Then she narrowed them.

"One week has almost ended. I don't see any Luke here." She chided, gesturing around her room with a tilt of her head.

A sheepish look came over him.

"Yeah. It is actually taking even longer than expected. Dad thought that after the first part of this deal is finalized, I could go. But it is more complex than we thought. And I will be needed for more." He explained, smiling apologetically.

"Why would they need you?" Maddy frowned.

"Wow. Way to boost my confidence, Madds." He spoke in an offended tone.

Maddy shot him a guilty smile.

Then he rolled his eyes, and offered ,"This is a big deal, and my father wants me to learn from this. He doesn't want any of his kids 'slacking off' in life."
