Some say, now suffer all the children,
And walk away a savior.
Or a madman and polluted.
From gutter institutions.
Don't you breathe for me.
Undeserving of your sympathy.
'Cause there ain't no way that I'm sorry for what I did.- Sleep, My chemical romance.
That evening, when Miranda was preparing the dinner, Maddison leisurely walked into the kitchen.
She opened the fridge, and with her left hand, took out a can of coke. She took a generous sip, and with curious hazel eyes, observed Miranda for a while.
Miranda's posture was relaxed, she was unhurriedly stirring a pan that conatined something white that smelled great.
Maddy's stomach grumbled.
Miranda apprehensively glaced up at Maddy, and asked, "Did you want anything?
"No" Maddy replied plainly, and continued staring
Miranda frowned, then turned back to the pan on the stove.
Maddy did not break her gaze.
"How is this house still in such a mint condition? Isn't it like centuries old?" Maddy wondered out loud, admiring her surroundings.
Miranda did not glance away from the stove, and smoothly provided, "It has been renovated a total of 10 times, twice while it has been with the Humphreys, and thrice while with the Hudsons. All the floorboards have been changed, ofcourse with the exact same, but new ones. The pipes all replaced, and well, you must've noticed- the decor has been a little modernized."
Humphrey was Luke's mother's maiden name.
Maddison impressively hummed in reply, taking another sip from the purple can.
Coolness dripped down her throat, all the way to her stomach.
Then, after a few seconds of silence, Miranda added thoughtfully, "A little over a century."
Maddy frowned, "Pardon?"
Miranda glanced at her with certain brown eyes for a second, then turned back, and explained, "This house is a little over one century old, and the shed near the woods was added very recently, if I had to guess, I'd say about 30 years ago."
She was referring to Maddison's previous observation.
"Oh." Maddy exclaimed, raising her eyebrows.
After her third sip, she spoke up again, "So, you're leaving after dinner?"
After her scare a night ago, she had concluded, she really did not prefer sleeping in this house alone.
She desperately desired another presence in the house, at night.
She felt safer knowing that she wasn't alone.
Miranda's entire demeanor changed. She went from relaxed to tense in a matter of seconds.
"Hell no. I am not sleeping here. Maddy, I really enjoy your company, it is refreshing honestly, but I detest this house at night. I am sorry, I really am." Miranda apologized profusely with wide eyes.
Maddy extended her left hand, and placed it on her shoulder, "Hey, it's okay. I wasn't asking you to stay, I was just making a conversation." She gently assured her.
Miranda then nodded, and informed her, "Dinner's ready. Go sit, I'll bring it to you."
Maddy happily complied.
