QOTD: Which duo do you want to see more of in the book?

----------------------

This was probably the weirdest position i've been in all day. Facing whatever the hell was going on with my family. I honestly don't see why I was mad at my brother now that I think about it. It's not like he knew or anything, I just shut him out with the rest of them. "Let me just start off by saying, hun we were going to tell you eventually. We just never found the right time to do that." My mother said.

I raised my eyebrow at them, "Honestly mom is there ever a good time to tell anyone that?" I paused beginning to pretend to be my mother, but in a more chipper way. "Hey! So uh I know it's been 18 years but I just wanted to tell you you're adopted! Sorry for holding off on it for so long!" Saying the last part a lot more serious, I give my parents a look. "Leah sweetheart-" My father starts.

"Don't. What happened to my birth parents? Why didn't they want me?" My mother sighed, looking at my father for him to be quiet before her eyes diverted to me. "Your biological father, Robert. He had a lot going on. He was running this very successful multi-million dollar company, and next thing we knew he was sent to prison and sentenced to 10 years. After they had you, and when Robert went prison Evelyn was under a lot of stress and pressure, and with Robert gone she couldn't give you the life she wanted you to have." She said.

I scoff. "So that's it? Daddy goes to jail, and all of a sudden mom can't take care of her kid? That's bullshit." I say in my own defense.

"It's not that simple to understand Leah. She was cut off from her parents, as well as Roberts business. All of his accounts were frozen and there wasn't much she could do but work a minimum wage job. On top of that with her relationship with Roberts parents? They offered to take you in, but with the fact that they even qualified enough to be parents, she came to us."

I sat quietly listening, deciding to understand their perspective of everything, and Evelyns.

"With her trying to work with the lawyers, and not being mentally stable enough to work through everything, she asked us to take you in for a little bit. We agreed. Your father and I loved children, and we saw how tough things were for her."

I laughed sadly. "A little bit. That turned into 18 years, mom."

"I know, I know sweetheart. She had already signed her rights over to us, and Robert agreed. We had a stable home, and a loving family, and that's all they wanted for you. She checked in all the time. All those stuffed animals you had gotten, and all of those birthday gifts, that was from them. But as time past, and as you got older, they wanted you to continue living the life you had, so they stopped the gifts, and the stuffed animals, and just disappeared."

I shook my head as I tried to hold back my tears. My thoughts were just scurrying around in my head. I've spent all of this time mad at them,  I should've been doing the opposite and thanking them for taking me in. "Even from a distance they helped out. After Rob got out of prison, we told them that we wanted to tell you on our own terms. After he got things going again, we agreed to start up a college fund for you, how else do you think we were about to pay for your tuition?" My father said.
