♡Chapter 28♡

Jasmine's POV

Thank God for the banging on the door because it's distracting everyone from Troy's outburst. The knocking sounded more like someone is trying to break in and the only people who knock like that are the cops. I turn to Jungkook and whisper in his ear.

"I think it's the cops," I say.

Jungkook frowns.

"Why are they here?" He asks.

I shrug my shoulders. I'm not sure. They could be here to further discuss more about my situation with Josh. 

"What's going on?" I ask at the doorway.

I was afraid to move any further into the living room due to the intense atmosphere. One cop stood next to my dad while jotting down on a notepad. The second cop was close to Josh and gave me an intense stare.

My dad looked at the cop before speaking.

"Would you like to explain?" He asked.

The cop turned his attention from his notepad to me.

"A video went viral of Joshua Reed confessing to a crime of a hit-and-run. We are here to inform the parents of the occurrence," the cop said.

"Then why is he here?" I asked before looking at Josh.

He held his hands together and looked down at his feet. His long blonde hair hid his face.

"He wanted to confront your parents about his crime," the cop said. 

I pursed my lips together before heading over to the couch and sitting next to my mother. She looked at me with red teary eyes. The anger in her eyes was prominent and I knew they are not directed at me.

"Well...did he confess?" I asked.

"Yes. We just have a few questions left to ask and some information you guys need to know," the cop responded.

A gruff voice spoke.

"The possible penalties Mr. Reed will get are 1-3 years in jail for not assisting to the injured person's aid, a fine of $2500, a fine of $25,000 for not returning to the crime scene, and suspension from his license," the cop said.

"What will he most likely get?" My dad asked.

My dad's hands were clasped together while they bobbed up and down due to his left leg bouncing vigorously. His eyebrows were knitted together and his eyes held anger in them.

"I'm not sure. The judge will decide that," the gruff-sounding cop responded.

My dad sighed.

"Thank you for taking the time out to talk with us. We will contact you of the court date," the cop said.

My dad comes back and talks with Mr. and Mrs. Jeon in a soft voice. I am not able to hear what my father is saying but based on the Jeons' facial expressions, I'm assuming he told them about the Josh situation.

Mr. Jeon says something in Korean to Jungkook. Jungkook looks at me with wide eyes before getting up and heading out the dining room. His parents and my parents follow along. Troy and Rashawn give me worried looks and I smile at them to reassure them that everything will be fine.

The three of us continue eating while we wait for the Jeons and my parents to get back.

It was about 30 minutes until they return to the dining table with serious faces. There's an unsettling silence at the table before my mother speaks.
