Chapter 20: Time

Chapter 20

Katniss P.O.V.

We're close to the birth now. The twins are so excited. Everyday they say that they're longing for their baby brother to come.

Riley is painting pictures, for the baby she says.

Peeta is taking care of every moment we have together. And we have dinner with our friends at least three times a week.

Marvel is not letting his baby girl out of his arms even though it has been months. He loves Caitlin too much. And he wasn't around for the first weeks of her life. And he feels guilty about that.

Nowadays everyone are just super excited about mine and Annie's big bellies. They've actually started to bet on when the babies are coming. Annie and I are starting to find it a bit annoying, but the others have fun.

I'm getting tired of carrying around the baby. This pregnancy has been easier then when I had the twins though, I'm not as big as I was back then, and that's a relief. But still, at this last stage of the pregnancy it's hard.

"Uugghh I'm so over this now", Annie whines and falls down on the chair by the dinner table with her hand in her big belly.

"Me too", I say and smash down a big bucket of Peeta's homemade cookie chocolate chip ice cream.

Annie grabs one of the spoons in my hand and almost inhale the ice cream. I can tell that she's angry at something.

"Lol Annie slow down", I laugh. "What are you angry at?"

"Everyone, now they have made a bet that I'll give birth in the supermarket", she says angrily. "Like how do they even know if I'm going or not? One thing I know now though is that I won't go, Finnick will have to go there because I am not going there, I refuse giving birth in a supermarket".

I start laughing and Annie looks accusingly at me.

"Traitor", she mutters and put more ice cream in her mouth.

"Oh come on it's funny", I say.

She looks at me and I can see that she has a hard time not to laugh. I poke her arm as I continue to laugh and now she gives in.

"They all just make me so damn crazy!" She laughs.

"I know, we should start a club", I say.

I start eating the ice cream made from heaven. I don't know how Peeta does it, he cooks magic when he's in the kitchen.

I stand up and walk into the kitchen.

"What do you want to drink?" I shout out to her.

"I'm coming in to get it myself", Annie shouts back and I can hear how she's standing up and starts waddling into the kitchen.

I open the fridge and take out a bottle of water.

When Annie comes into the kitchen she freezes and get weird expression on her face.

Suddenly I feel something flow out of me. I look down at the floor and sees that my water broke.

I swallow hard and look down at the floor beneath Annie. There's water there too.

Oh my god.

We look at each other and opens our mouths at the same time.

"My water just broke", we say.

And than I completely lose it and starts laughing like a manic.

"What is so funny about this? We're both in labour and no one else is on the house", Annie shouts through her pain.

"I know, I know but think about it, they bet on everything but this!" I laugh.

Annie laughs along with me through the pain.

This is so crazy. How can this even be happening? This is amazing and horrifying at the same time. Amazing because our babies will be born at the same day, horrifying because we're alone and both are in too much pain to do anything.

I try to grab my phone that's on the kitchen island. After some time I manage get a hold of it and I dial Peeta's number.

I'm all out of laughing now. It hurts too much.

"Hello?"

"Peeta!" I say through the pain.

"Katniss, what's wrong?" Peeta asks.

"Peeta I need you, my water broke", I say through my teeth.

"Oh my god! Dad can you watch the girls?" He yells. "Where's Annie? Can she help you until I come?"

"No I wouldn't count on it since her water broke too", I say.

"What?! Finnick! We have to go!"

I hang up the phone.

"They're on their way", I say.

Annie is leaning against the wall.

"Oh jeez I almost forgot how much this hurts", she says, trying to take deep calming breaths.

"Yah!" I agree.

Child birth is one of the hardest things to go through but as the years pass you seem to forget how much it actually hurts. Maybe that's why you should have more children, to get a remainder of how much it hurts.

After a while the door bursts open and the guys runs in. Peeta runs to me and Finnick runs over to Annie.

"This is crazy! What are the odds of this actually happening?" Finnick shouts.

"We can talk about that later! There are two girls here that are in very much pain and would like to get to a hospital!" Annie screams.

Peeta picks me up bridal style and starts walking out of the house. Finnick following with Annie in his arms, both heading to Peeta's car. They drop us in the back seat and then head towards the hospital.

I grab Annie's hand and she squeezes mine. We're in this together this time.

I didn't know Annie when she first had Fisher. I met her at the airport, saying goodbye to Peeta. Finnick asked me if I could keep an eye on her since they just had Fisher and he had to leave and yeah. That was also when Peeta proposed to me. I'm never going to forget that day. Never.

I couldn't imagine my life without Annie now. She's like the other half of me. Like there should have been two of me, like a twin.

"We're here!" Peeta shouts and the car stops.

I'm being carried out of the car and I lean my head onto Peeta's chest as I try to take deep calming breaths through the pain. Damn it hurts.

Peeta runs into the hospital. And I'm starting to feel excited even though I'm in so much pain.

Soon I'm going to be able to see my son. I can't wait.
