The two boys walked together to the stables in complete silence. Every once in a while the prince would try to say something only to get shy and shut up once again.
'What am I doing?' Gilbert thought. 'Why can't I say anything? Am I..... Nervous? I don't get nervous around anyone I am AWESOME'
Matthew looked up at Gilbert and lifted a little worried by his silence. "You are quite quiet sir. Are you alright?"
"M-me? I was just waiting for you to say something." He lied. "But since you lack the communication skills that the great me has been gifted with, I guess it is understandable."
Matthew let out a small giggle and looked away trying to hold his laughter.
"What's so funny boy?" Gilbert asked.
"I just realized something."
"What?"
"You aren't as mean as you look." Matthew let a soft smile spread across his lips.
Gilbert was shocked. "Uh, I- I am not mean looking!"
Matthew began to laugh holding a hand over his mouth as if. To. Try and stop the sounds.
"What makes me look mean?!" Gilbert called out. "Is it the red eyes?"
Matthew stopped laughing and looked up into Gilbert's eyes and said without hesitation:
"No, your eyes tell of a boy who has a huge heart. What makes you scary is the fact that your words and actions deceive your eyes." When it came out he began to go red as he realized how cheesy it sounded.
"What? Well, y-your eyes say the same little boy! Those violet eyes show weakness and purity! But who can be so sure that both is true!" The prince said with a half cocked smile like he had won.
"Depends on your definition of weak?" Matthew smiled feeling a little saved from his own comment.
"Alright, no more mushy moments. We are at the stables." Gilbert pointed to a huge wooden door with a lion on one side and a great black bird on the other. "Do you know how to ride?"
"Oh. I thought I was here to teach you." Matthew joked.
"These are Prussian horses kid, they are only tamed if they're claimed." Gilbert explained.
The prince opened the doors and behind them were two rows of horses. On one side were beautiful tall steads that seemed very calm and very well trained. However on the other side were horses that were wild, they kicked the doors creating a thundering sound when the boys got near their eyes all seemed full of fear and hatred.
"On your right are the horses that are claimed." The prince said.
He wondered up to a Snow White young horse and pet it's snout.
"This, is Blitz. My horse."
The boy walked over to the left and held out his hand to the more rowdy horses.
"These are the untamed. Choose one Mattie. Then you will have to Train it and claim it." Gilbert laughed. "Good luck kid."
Matthew gulped down the stone in his throat and walked past the excited horses. Each seemed the same horse just different colours. Suddenly a loud harsh neigh roared in the stable. Matthew walked towards the horse to see its gold and white speckled body. It was the smallest and obviously the youngest, yet it was full of anger and it reared up calling out again.
"Woah Mattie, stay away from that one, my father is going to have him put down soon, he is the meaning of untamed."
"Him."
"What?"
"I want him."
"Are you nuts?! That horse will kick you off and stomp your head in before you can say I was right."
"Him." Matthew said stubbornly.
"Fine kid, your funeral."
The prince walked outside to find the trainer to walk the horse into the circle. Matthew stayed behind and examined the horse a while longer.
"No one can tame you, because you don't need to be tamed."
Matthew put his hand out to the horse. The horse watched his hand carefully and looked ready to bite but instead it neighed and backed up to the stone wall.
"You aren't afraid of little ol' me are you?"
The horse hesitated then very slowly approached Matthew's hand.
"That's a good boy, c'mon, I won't bite."
The horse stopped and looked at Matthew as if it were thinking something through. Then the horse smelled Matthew's hand and rested its snout into it.
"See, it's okay boy, you aren't so bad are ya? I think you need a name. A good friend of my father use to say I was full of licht. So how about it Licht?"
The horse let out a small neigh then touched it's nose to Matthew's.
"Come on Licht that tickles!"
"Oh my sweet lord in heaven." A deep voice said behind him
Mathew turned to see a round tall man with a beard and ropes. Gilbert stood beside him in complete Awe.
"Does this mean I can have him?" Matthew smiled.
