Matthew and Gilbert walked into the clearing where a tall stone wall lead to a jagged hill. The wall was covered in lichen and moss, the clearing also had very long grass that crawled up the wall.
The prince tied the horses to a tree and smiled at Matthew widely.
"A clearing?" Mathew said confused.
"No you fool, follow me and I will show you!" He said marching to the stone wall.
Matthew stayed close behind and watched as Gilbert grabbed the lichen and pulled it back. Light flooded through the rock wall and revealed a tunnel.
"C'mon." The prince called running into the tunnel.
"Hey wait up!" Matthew called racing after the prince.
The young boy chased him and held his hands on the walls of the cave to feel where he was going.
"So where does this cave go?"
"Wouldn't that ruin the surprise?"
Gilbert reached for Matthew pulling him forward and placing him in front so he would lead. The prince pushed Matthew's back trying to get him to go a little quicker.
"Hey, please slow down." Matthew said. "I can't really-"
Suddenly Matthew tripped and fell through a mess of vines getting tangled but then landing into what felt like damp grass. He opened his eyes, it took them a moment to adjust from the light but when they did he was amazed. Before him was a beautiful waterfall that fell into a crystal clear pond, the grass was emerald green and shimmered like one, small pink and yellow flowers speckled the grass leading up the mossy rock walls towards the waterfall.
"See...." He finished his sentence.
"Isn't it awesome?! I know it is cause I discovered it." Gilbert laughed walking over Matthew.
Matthew stood up and walked towards the pond and saw mini flowered Lilly pads and what looked like koy.
"My father was given koy as a gift from the emperor of China, but pops wanted to eat them, so I brought them here." Gilbert said.
"Wow! They are really pretty!" Matthew said exitedly.
The blond crouched down by the pond and swished his finger in the water. A small coy swam up and sucked Matthew's finger then brushed against his hand swimming away. Matthew let out a light giggle and smiled widely up at Gilbert who was watching him with a soft smile. Matthew looked at him curiously and blushed when the prince's look hit his heart. The snowy prince gave a goofy grin and sat down beside him.
"Yah know kid, I've barely known yah a day, but I think you're okay." Gilbert laughed.
"You aren't so bad, people just need to be more flexible."
"People just can't handle pure greatness when they see it." The Prussian laughed.
"I know it's not my place the pry." The boy said nervously. "But I don't understand one thing, isn't it usually the king that teaches his son how to one day rule a kingdom?" Matthew asked.
"Yes, however that old mam doesn't want to teach me." Gilbert said a little down.
"May I ask why?"
"He doesn't want me to be a king like him."
"He doesn't want you to be a king?"
"He wants me to be a king! Just a different king from him, my own king, a better king. So he's been looking for a tutor and I've made everyone turn away because I want HIM to teach me!"
"Did you ever ask why he wants you to be?"
"Either way I'm gonna be the best king Prussia has ever seen! So why can't he just show me the ropes?"
Matthew watched over the frustrates prince and thought back to the king. "He's your father, he just wants what's best for you."
"Well I wish I had a different father."
Water splashed on Gilbert's face and he looked to Matthew who's hand was damp and his face was cringed in anger. Gilbert eyes grew wide as he watched the blond stand up. Gilbert had hit a soft spot, he did not know it yet but Matthew had lost both of his parents.
"Watch what you say, cause one day your father isn't going to be there for you and you will regret your words for the rest of your life." Matthew walked towards the tunnel.
"Matthew wait!" Gilbert called after him.
But the boy was already in the tunnel and Gilbert chased after him.
