My Life was a Game

Chapter 2

It has been almost a month since April quit her job at Holmesfield manor, as expected he let go of her immediately with no further issue. She left June with a message that said she wanted some time of her own and refused to see him at any time soon. Differed from the dream where she told him to stop all contact all together. Of course, June would constantly look for her throughout all routes and she would constantly oppose his relationship and had 'an accidental' encounters with those men. No matter how much she avoided them, they will always find their way to her life. So, this time she didn't plan for extra effort to avoid them. She would endure and caution, nonetheless.

Whatever happened, April just wanted to be alive and died of old age. She had no evil persona or smart enough to device for revenge. The prophecy was granted for her to calculate her move and avoid any death ending. Whatever card she had in store, she was ready to use them for her survival. One of them was Alabaster. She had a good feeling on this guy. Alabaster would be the safe house for her future. While he might be indirectly caused of her death, it only occurred if she went as his date in the party. So, first she had to enter his company.

She had been living in a rented apartment around the corner of the Jacker Conglomerate, a place where she would work in a few days more. It was unbelievable. Her degree from three years ago was still valid with two years of working experience as a maid. The interview went smoother than any interview she had. 'Did Alabaster expected me to come? Have we ever had any exchange before? Does he know me?' All she knew, they would only meet each other on Onyx routes while on the other routes, she worked at some small shop after quitting as a maid.

However, she didn't get any information about her working days in the company. The game rather focuses on the fluttering and exciting romance of the protagonist than the boring office life of the antagonist. Anyway, she could only walk through the story that had already been written for her and overcome the unknown obstacles by herself.

"Welcome to the Department of Finance, Miss April. It's your first day and you came early. I already can see your dedication for the company. Anyway, you don't need to be nervous, honey. I'm not going to eat you, so my name is Jackson Peter. I'll be your supervisor for five months. Nice to meet you."

Said the man in front of her with his hand raised offering a handshake. She smiled and held his hand firmly while giving him a polite reply. She didn't know that she looked nervous but her palms were obviously a bit sweaty. Since, graduated from university she never got to score any job at least those that related to her degree. This is the first time she got hired, moreover it was a big company. She wasn't really confident that she could still be as good as she was from five years of her study, after three years of unrelated job experiences.

She had her red mahogany hair tied into a neat long ponytail that ended just above the waist, a gray long sleeves blouse captured her upper body shape perfectly, a long maroon pencil skirt wrapped her plump hip and thin waist perfectly, and ended with a black straps high heels. None of her clothes were bought from any luxury brands but April managed to pull it off with her stunning figure. She walked gracefully and elegantly. Several eyes were locked on her along the office aisle but April didn't notice any of the stares, she just tried not tripping her way to her new desk.

A couple weeks had passed since she started her job. Now, she was more confident than ever. It wasn't due to the stare of the coworkers or the load of work she had to finish within the two weeks. No. She became more confident with her new expression; cold and aloof. It took more than a month to reconstruct her normally soft, sweet and naive look. They said, one works better under pressure.

April was unsure how herself in the dream had endured the pressure but now, she had more determination than ever to survive. She wouldn't show weakness or try to run away or cower in fear again. Herself in the dream always showed fear, running away and being submission. She had enough suffering and been through death itself, theoretically. She probably never knew the reason the dream was given to her but by whatever kind of high being for whatever was their purpose, she would use it for herself first to get through any hardship and find her own happy ending.
