sickly
scent
of alcohol
fills the air
white floors
shoes that
tap tap tap
on them
hands holding
files
covered in
gloves
a sigh
"back so soon"
a smile
brief
"i know you
appreciate
my business"
a horrified look
flashing across a
calm face
as if it isn't true
"don't say things
like that"
the woman in the chair
beside you
admonishes
"i'm sorry"
a brittle laugh
i'm sorry
for living
for failing
again
"you can't go on
like this"
"i can and i will"
until i get it right
and then the only
place
i'll be
is in the ground
i won't be
gasping
for air
in this endless sea
anymore
i'll be at
peace
"that will not bring you the
peace
you've been searching for"
a wary glance
"it's the only thing i haven't
tried"
"there are other ways to find
happiness"
"i don't want happiness"
i simply want
oblivion
to see ever stretching
darkness
and know
that i am
home
