at the end

fall

after the

ceremony

onto the ground

from the chairs

and from the

arch

above the altar

the path is

strewn

careless

flowers blowing

in the wind

one after the other

they flutter away

the white dress

is put back

into the closet

where it belongs

she'll never

wear it

again in her life

if she's lucky

the groom loosens

his tie

drops his

coat

onto the warm

carpet

below his feet

high heels are

kicked

into the corner

baths are drawn

and taken

hair comes down

out of the gel

out of the

hairsprayed

finished

curls

diamonds are set

aside

makeup is wiped

away

smiles are exchanged

the way rings

had been

hours before

hands touch

so softly

briefly

gently

that you wouldn't

have seen it happen

if you weren't

looking for it

the doves

that were released

coo

a new home in the

gutters

of the big new

house

the perfect way to

start

the rest of their

lives

every day

after this one is

maybe there's hope

for a happy

ending

maybe we can all

be happy
