********************************
can you
drive someone
to insanity?
tearing
the hair
off of their
scalps
and making
crescent moon
marks
in their
skin
so that they
don't cry
because if
they cry
you will
know
how each
word
feels like a
stab
in the gut
but they're
so used to
bleeding out
that it
doesn't hurt
them anymore
they're so
used to
the doctors
helping
everyone else
before they're
helped
you'll see
though their
eyes
have become
a mask
to hide
the turmoil
the chaos
that rumbles
within
waiting
to be unleashed
you'll see
the tiredness
in their smile
because it's
getting harder
every day
to fake it
you'll watch
and notice
how they
stand tall
when they want
to collapse
and just
give up
but they
can't
because their
whole life
has been this
struggle
against
you
and against
what you
put them
through
with your
careless words
and cruel
actions
and your
refusal
to believe that
you are
doing something
wrong
and you act
surprised
when they
lie to your
face
without batting
an eyelash
or looking away
because they've
learned
that some
thoughts
are better left
unsaid
and some secrets
have to be
kept
you'll notice
in the morning
that their
pillow
is still
wet with tears
and that the
sadness
in their
melancholy
words
comes from a
deep sorrow
like a well
a drop of water
falling
down
down
down
into the depths
and you'll
hear the splash
faint
but there
can you
drive someone
to insanity?
i think you can
because you
can't become
insane
all by
yourself
