black
spots
like the
freckles
on a pale face
like the
stars
if the night was
inverted
and white
became
true black
you can almost
feel
your lungs
squeezing
every last bit of
air
to your brain
"stay alive
stay alive
stay alive"
but you refuse
you will
not fight
this battle any longer
than you have to
the rope
is coarse
threads
fraying
from your
weight
you do not
claw
at it the way
others have done
you simply
let your weight
drop
into your toes
let your mind
wander
for the very last time
you push the
air
out of your lungs
though it
fights
your breath
fights
against you
against this
terrible
terrible
thing that you want to do
but you are doing it
no matter what
you hope she
doesn't find you
because it would
haunt her
the image of you
dead
before her
footsteps
on the stairs
nearing
then receding
like the tide
gently washing up against
the shore
and then away
you let the
spots
cloud your vision
and you breathe
your last
and you
let yourself
hang
