or so they

a sad echo
a whisper
in hallways
to remind those
who refuse to
believe
that the dead
can awaken
a story
told to children
goosebumps
on pale skin

she must've been
frightened
pale blue eyes
watery
like a stream
in need of a
good long rain
painfully silent
why didn't she
scream

she was going to
grow old
turn nineteen
buy new
shoes
and marry
james
the pride of the
town
with her
neat blue dress
it wasn't so

in the end
