Chapter 19: Scourge

He screwed up. Big time.

Amy might or might not forgive him. He'd never know. Since the accident, he hadn't been really able to move around like a normal person. One leg being broken as well as one arm, well. It was fun.

He hadn't been able to leave the house-- not without help. Scourge sighed, closing his eyes. He didn't have much experience in the big brother department, but by far, he was already failing. He truly thought he had been protecting her.

It was his only intention. Nothing more.

Scourge's blue eyes opened and they landed back on both casts. His eyes narrowed. Whoever that had been that attacked them meant to get something from them. They had shouted something about chaos powers. Extraction.

He felt as if he had heard them before. Those words...the voice. They felt familiar. Yet he couldn't put his finger on it.

Scourge scooted over in his chair, reaching for his drawers. Pulling the middle one open, he dug in and pulled out some Manila colored folders. Newspaper clips fell out of the folders and he sighed, a hand coming up to his forehead.

He looked at the last one. Eggman. Amy had talked about him before but mentioned he wasn't any menace to them now. But there was a feeling in his gut that told him...

It wasn't over yet. "Are you done moping?" Scourge looked up and scoffed.

"Aren't you supposed to be with my sister?" He asked the figure in the doorway.

"At least I was with her," Shadow replied. He could see how Scourge slightly flinched before sighing and looking down.

"I'm not a good older brother. I failed in so many things. She might as well not want to see me again and I think I'll respect it... even if it hurts me. I never wanted to hurt her-- she probably hates me. It's been so long, I don't know who she is. I thought I had gotten to re-learn who she is but I guess it's not enough to fix a few years."

Shadow stared at the green hedgehog before sighing and looking away. "Are you done with your pity party?"

Scourge's eyes lit up with annoyance. "I could easily beat you up, Ultimate Lifeform. Don't think just because my sister is pinning after you that you're on my good graces."

Shadow shook his head before making his way into the room and sat down on his bed. Scourge's blue eyes burned holes into the ebony hedgehog as he made his way-- as he intruded into his room. "I'm well aware of that. That's one thing all brothers do anyways, wanting to kick their sister's interests' ass. And on that part we are evenly matched. After seeing Amy's poweress improve in the short time she spent with you must mean you were already aware of that Chaos Energy."

Scourge's glare lessened by a fraction, hearing the words tumble from his mouth. "There's no need for you to be patronizing."

"Admiting a quality in you doesn't mean I'm patronizing, but whatever floats your boat." Shadow finally caught sight of the newspaper clippings. Especially the one where it stated Sonic and him saving her. He picked it up, reading a line where it questioned his standing; a hero or a villain. "I never meant to be a bad guy. Eggman... he was the one who told me he could bring Maria back from the dead. But he just wanted the chaos emeralds for ultimate power. It made me think, perhaps she can finally enjoy what this world had to offer. To see her again. To have a family again."
