What Elevator?

New York, May, 2014

Chanel's POV

"Shawn! That's not the point!"

"So that fact the you let-"

"I didn't let shit happen! You know how she is."

"Oh word? That's your excuse?!"

I woke up and looked over at clock on my right. The neon blue lights showed it was 2 am and my parents are yelling at each other? Why? I got up careful not to wake Blue who was asleep on my left side.

I got up. I was wearing my batman boxer shorts and a sports bra. I creeped out of my room and walked silently in the hallway.

My parents were still going at it. What the hell happened? And why the fuck they keep talking about an elevator? 

I took one step and my knee hit the wall. Shit! 

"Chanel!" I heard.

Dammit! 

"Chanel!"

I sighed and came around the corner.

"Hey." I said waving. "What y'all arguing about? Y'all woke me up." 

"We're not arguing." My mom said.

"Okay, an aggressive debate." I said.

"Don't worry about." My dad said. "Sorry we woke you. Where are your clothes?"

"Daddy, I was asleep." 

"You can catch a cold." He said.

I shook my head.

"Mommy, how did it go?" I asked.

"I'll tell you about it tomorrow but it's late so get some sleep." She said.

"Blue in her room?"

"No mines." I said eyeing them. "Goodnight then."

"Goodnight." They said.

I went back to my room but I know they not telling me everything.

A Week Later  

I was putting my stuff in my locker and heading to lunch. As I was walking Nae walked up beside me.

"What's for lunch today?"

"I don't know but you know they always got pizza and nuggets." I said.

"Yeah but they be petty with the ranch."

"Nah, just grab some carrots or celery and you good." I said.

We walked in to the lunch room and got our lunch. We went to sit at our usual table with Chrissy. She like an honorary member of the crew.

"Yo!" Cal said when we got to the table. "We need a study session."

"Why what's up?"

"This!" He said showing his Math test that had a D on it.

"Woah, woah," KP said coming to the table. "I saw that shit from a mile away. This is not the time for your grades to be dropping."

"I know but-"

"Ain't no buts." Nae said. "You need to bring that up. If our parents find out we're done."

"I know." Cal said. "I'm gonna get it together."

"You better." Chrissy said. "But y'all I gotta bounce. Be easy."

We told her bye continued to eat and crack jokes. Somebody walked up to us and I looked.
