It was monday again, and meaning shift again. I just finished my report at kagagaling ko lang sa opisina ng senior ko.
I am now walking on the hallway going to the ward kung saan may ichecheck akong pasyente.
Suddenly I saw Li running to the direction I came from, her uniform was full of blood and because she seemed to be going into an emergency, she didn't notice me. Li is one of the kindest resident na nakilala ko although we didn't came from the same Med School and also she's friend with Nikkolai, the grandson of the hospital's owner so it means, she's friend of Mateo also dahil magkabarkada si Nikkolai tsaka si Mateo.Nagpatuloy nalang ako sa paglalakad, maybe there's an emergency patient na naman, lagi naman 'tong nangyayari eh, doctors, nurses and other hospitals staff, makikita mo na lang silang tumatakbo basta basta and if they did, surely, another life is being taken away again.
Nagpunta na ako sa ward to check the new patient assigned to me. I was greeted by other patient na naging pasyente at kaibigan ko, mahilig kasi akong makipag kwentuhan sa mga pasyente dito especially kung may leisure time ako, wala naman kasi akong kaibigan sa hospital na ito because my friends stepped on the other side, oo may mga kakilala ako but they're just merely a companion inside the surgery room and nothing else, tsaka di rin naman ako nakakasunod sa mga trip nila. Okay na ako sa pakikipagkwentuhan sa mga pasyente, madami din naman akong natutunan sa kanila.
"Hello, ikaw ba si Mekah?" I asked the child laying on the bed. I know her name of course kasi nasa akin yung record niya. This is just my way to start a conversation sa mga pasyente para di sila mailang.
Bahagya itong napangiti. Mekah is just 12 years old at naka-home study daw siya mula pa noon dahil may sakit siya sa puso at ngayon lumala ito, she needs a quick transplant dahil humihina na talaga ang puso niya and it might affect her lungs pag di ito naagapan sa madaling panahon. She was already in the waiting list, and when we say that, it's like we are waiting for a miracle, but miracles do happen sometimes so there's still hope. A little hope.
I was currently writing on her records when I felt someone's presence. Agad akong napatingin sa likod ko and I saw Mateo checking the other patient. He's not looking at me though, he's busy checking the patient's temperature kaya bumaling ulit ako kay Mekah, hoping that he will not recognize me.
Because until now, I was still confused and shocked. I know it was just a name but I'm not expecting him to call me that, dahil mostly of my friends never called me in my first name. Ang alam ko nga eh kahit second name ko di niya alam dahil never naman kaming nagkaroon ng masyadong interaction and he seems not to be interested sa aming mga classmates niya.
"As of now, ayos ka pa naman, so continue being like that. Babalik ulit ako dito pagkatapos ng lunch ha. Fighting lang." nakangiting sabi ko kay Mekah ng matapos ako. Ngumiti naman ito sa akin.
Pagtingin ko sa likod wala na si Mateo so nakahinga ako ng maluwang but then, my heart skipped a beat not because I'm in love or kinikilig but because I'm shocked, AGAIN. I didn't notice Mateo to be standing near the ward's entrance.
"Are you done with all your patients?" he asked me.
"N-not yet, may tatlo pa." I answered pero nag stutter parin ako because until now I can't believe that he's really talking to me.
Tumango ito bago nagsalita." Okay, see you around then."
He left me dumbfounded, what the hell was that, why is he starting to talk to me? What's his motive? kasi nabibigla talaga ako. Sanay na akong di niya pinapansin.
