The First Catch

A/N Hello again, fellow watchers! Sorry for not updating in so long. But I am back, and I'm here to stay. Now in this chapter, Rex captures his first pokemon. Also I do not own Pokémon or any of its characters, except of course for my OCs. Now please don't sue me!

The four teens continued walking through the forest in silence. They had previously encountered someone that healed Rex and Beverly's Pokemon after their battle earlier, and had also asked him for directions to the exit of the forest, and we're headed there now. Then out of nowhere...

"OHMYGOD!!! I'm so darn forgetful!" she screamed. "I forgot to give you guys these!" She looked through her bag and took out some pokéballs and gave five to each of them. "These are pokéballs, but you already knew that! With them you can catch more Pokémon that are in the wild, but first you should weaken the Pokémon, if not it'll just escape the pokéball or knock it away."

"Cool!" James exclaimed. "I can't wait to make many new friends!"

"Me neither, bro! I'm gonna catch a lot of Pokémon!" Rex said excitedly. Or just a few because I hear you can only carry six Pokémon at once."

"Are you serious? That's disappointing," James said sadly.

"I'm thinking of catching fighting types," Beverly said. "They are so strong and can kick some serious butt!"

"So what are your goals for your journeys?" Cassandra asked curiously.

"Well I wanna earn gym badges and enter the Pokémon League!" Rex said.

"Me too," said James. "And someday, you and me, shall battle in the great Pokémon League stadium, brother." Rex smiled at that and nodded.

"Well as I already stated I wanted to catch fighting types, I was thinking of becoming a Fighting Type specialist," Beverly said.

"Wow, those are all some great goals!" Cassandra said smiling.

"What about you, Cassandra?" James asked. "What do you want to achieve on your journey?"

Cassandra looked unsure. Truth be told, she had no idea what she wanted to achieve. All she knew is that she wanted to become a great trainer one day, make her father proud, and be the very best she could be along with her Mudkip. She looked down at Mudkip's pokéball. "To be honest, I still have no idea," she said sadly. James noticed this and acted quickly.

"Don't worry!" he said, trying to cheer her up. "I'm sure you'll figure it out someday. The journey is long, and there is still much time."

She smiled at James. "Thanks James. That's very sweet of you."

He blushed at her compliment. "Yeah, anytime."

Rex and Beverly noticed how awkward it was getting for them, so Rex gestured at Beverly to walk away... Very slowly, so the other didn't even notice when they left. "Man, James has a huge crush on Cassandra, doesn't he?" Beverly asked Rex.

"Yeah he does," he responded. "He acts like such an idiot," he laughed. Beverly, on the other hand, hit his arm.

"Ow!"

"I think it's sweet, so stop being an idiot."

"Somethings never change," he muttered. "And I'm glad they don't."

"What was that?"

"Oh, no nothing. Just thinking out loud."

They continued walking in silent for a few minutes before a Pokémon flew in front of them. Both of them gasped. As the Pokémon landed about six feet away, Rex took out his pokédex and scanned it.

"Fletchling. The tiny robin Pokémon," the pokédex began. "Despite the beauty of its lilting voice, it's merciless to intruders that enter its territory." Rex then looked at the bird again, determination visible in his eye. "You're gonna try to catch it, aren't you?" Beverly asked knowingly.

"Of course," he responded simply and stepped forward. "Let's go, Froakie!"

Meanwhile with James and Cassandra...

"Where the crap did they go?!" James asked in frustration as Cassandra and he kept walking through the forest. "How could they just walk off like that?!"

"Relax," she said. "I'm sure they'll turn up eventually."

"I guess you're right," he grumbled. "So tell me, Cassandra, are you originally from Hoenn? You know, since you have a Mudkip."

"Yeah! My uncle lives here and when I came a few months ago, I decided to stay for a while," she said. "Also, you can call me Cassie since name is so long." They both laughed.

"Alright Cassie. We're also from Hoenn, but we moved about 8 years ago. Rex and Beverly used to be the best of friends back then, but when we move they lost contact for 8 years. Then turns out she's our new neighbor and they're best friends again, like the move never even happened."

"Wow, that's really cool," Cassandra said happily. "Some friendships surpass even the trials of time."

"Yeah..." James said simply.

Then they heard someone yell, as if calling for their Pokémon in a battle.

"Let's go, Froakie!"

Out of the pokéball came Froakie, looking ready for battle.

"Froakie!" it exclaimed coming out of the pokéball. Then James and Cassandra ran up to them, having found them at last.

"There you guys are!" James said. "We've been looking forever!"

"Hush, Jimmy," Beverly said, calling by his childhood nickname. "Your brother's about to catch a Pokémon."

The Fletchling instantly got battle ready, and dove at Froakie with Quick Attack. "Froakie, dodge and use Pound!" Froakie rapidly dodged the attack, and then sped towards Fletchling and used Pound. The Fletchling then used tackle, hitting Froakie and making it fall into the floor.

"You okay, Froakie?" Rex asked. Froakie got up and nodded, looking determined to win. "Okay, use Bubble!" Froakie fired some foamy bubbles from its mouth making the Fletchling fall to the floor.

"Well, here goes nothing," Rex said enlarging one of the pokéballs. He then threw it at Fletchling and...

It shook once...

Twice...

Thrice...

DING!

Rex just stared at the pokéball, unable to believe he just caught his first Pokémon. He then walked towards it and picked it up. "I caught a Pokémon!!!"
