As I we watched Mean Girls, all I could think about was Romeo. Did he really cheat? He was always so sweet to me. Rose wouldn't lie to me though. She was literally my only friend here. I couldn't not trust her. She was the only thing I had here.
I told Rose that I was going to sleep because I had a headache. A headache of Romeo. He was stuck in my thoughts.
I woke up early in the morning. It was still dark and owls hooted all around the property. I got up slowly and decided to go to the bathroom. I think I fell asleep with makeup on so I was just going to wash my face.
As I looked in the mirror, I saw my mascara down my face. Was I crying? I don't remember crying? It was probably nothing since I don't remember crying. I was upset. But I didn't cry. Not yet at least. I wiped the remains of my makeup off and decided to go downstairs since I didn't feel like going back to bed.
I missed the creaky stair trying not to wake anyone. I took each step slowly to make sure I made as little noise as possible. I reached the kitchen and walked to the fridge. I knew what we would have something in there to snack on. Or to drink at least. I found orange juice and took some fruit from the fruit bowl on the counter.
Turning around, Romeo was stood there. I jerked back a little since he scared me. How long had he been there?
"Oh my god. You scared me! How long have you been there?"
"Sorry. Not long. I just heard the fridge open and I wondered what it was."
"Yeah, just me"
"Just you"
What did just you mean. Was he expecting someone else? Maybe one of his girls. I don't know. Ignoring him, I walked over to the couch and cuddled into the corner of it. It reminded me of when Romeo and I were watching Disney films here. No. Stop. I can't be thinking about that.
I pulled a blanket over my body and it's warmth comforted me immediately. I turned the TV but on low volume. Nothing interesting was on so I just left some Italian show on to maybe fall asleep to soon.
It came to my attention that Romeo was still standing beside the couch, looking at me weirdly.
"Is there something wrong?" I questioned him.
"It's 2 o'clock in the morning. Why are you awake?"
"Early night. I've had enough sleep."
He raised a brow at me.
"Early night? I heard you laughing with Rose at 11pm earlier." He was right. I didn't have enough sleep. "You're off Chiara. What's up? Please, talk to me"
"Oh my god! Literally nothing. Just let me be." I shouted, forgetting it was early. I threw my hand over my mouth to silence myself.
"You don't have to be quiet, Rose went home and your Dad had some business to do. It's just you and me here. Go on, tell me what's up?"
He was annoying me too much so I stormed off to my room, locking it behind me. That way I could ignore him. I quickly got changed because I wanted to go out. Even at 2am. I just had to be away from him. I put on something easy. Joggers, a top and an oversized jacket.
Romeo continued asking me what's wrong and to open the door. I ignored him. Placing some shoes on my feet, Romeo became silent. He had walked away because I had heard his footsteps get quieter. Thank god.
I opened my window and climbed through it. I can't believe I was basically sneaking out. I was planning to find a bar or something. I don't know the drinking laws over here but if I fluttered my lashes to a man, he'd definitely buy me a drink. Or a few drinks I hope. I needed to let loose. Just for a bit.
I ran through the gates and found myself walking into a small town I remember from our small outings from earlier this week. It wasn't that far and I had already found myself by a place that smelled like alcohol. Perfect.
There was some young men by the doors and I strutted over to them in fake confidence. Just anything to get a drink. They began speaking in Italian and I suddenly replied without thinking,
"Oh no I don't speak-" one of the guys cut me off.
"Oh. English?"
"Yeah" I smiled at him and he continued to speak, a thick Italian accent paired with his words.
Just as I had thought. I had now had a few drinks. My confidence grew and grew and suddenly I was dancing and making jokes it a small crowd. I felt good in that moment. Not caring what was happening.
The guy from earlier came up to me and asked if we could go to another bar, since this one was closing soon. Of course I agreed.
"Hey! I never asked for your name! What is it?"
"James. You?"
"Chiara. Pleasure to meet you!" I slurred in my drunken voice.
We both skipped down the pathways singing some song we had made up from my drunken thoughts.
In the middle of my song, a hand grasped my arm.
"What the fuck Chiara? Why are you here!"
"Mmm I don't... don't knowwwww. Why am I here?" I said, my drunkness taking over. I didn't even look to see who it was. At this point I didn't care.
