I woke up to the smell of french toast wafting in the air around me. I stretch as I slide my legs to the side of the bed to stand up. I sigh and walk up to my bathroom. I turn the tap of the sink and splash some warm water on my face. I scrub my face with my regular face wash and towel dry my face. I place the towel back on the rack and hop down the stairs.
I walk into the kitchen to find Romeo and my Dad on their laptops on the island. Work I presume. French toast is piled high on a plate and I take a slice.
"Morning!" Romeo chirps, he's too happy for the morning.
"Morning." I mumble, I think I overslept last night because I'm exhausted. They laugh at me as I wrap myself in a huge blanket and close my eyes, laying across the sofa.
"Someone's a bit tired for sleeping 11 hours." Romeo teases.
My head snaps up, "11 hours? Why didn't you wake me up whenever you woke up?" I ask.
"You fell asleep at 11 and woke up at 10, I woke up at 8. I didn't want to bother you, that's all."I didn't mind waking up late but when I felt like I had wasted the day away, it was a bit of an issue. Deciding not to waste the day any further, I ran upstairs and took a shower. I shaved, used a body scrub and thoroughly washed my hair. I dried myself off and picked out a black skirt and bralette top. I applied some mascara and blush to my cheeks and finished off with a pink lip gloss.
I walked straight passed Romeo and into the garden. I took some paper and pencils and sat in the circle of flowers. I traced a butterfly wing onto the page and added shadings. The flowers against the page added a beautiful pop of colour to the grey scale butterfly. I picked at a red rose and drew the outline of the flower. After the outline had been perfected, I reached for my red pencil. I started off by adding a light wash of colour then slowly added finer detail.
I looked back at my drawing and a shadow loomed over the paper. I looked up and Romeo towered over me.
"I knew you'd be here baby." He lays one knee down and wraps his arm around me, "Show me your drawing."I scoot my body so he can sit next to me and I slide the paper in front of him. He takes the paper from me and moves it to the other side of him so I cannot reach it. I lean over to grab it but he moves it further. I do not give up on trying to take it back. I end up straddling his legs and he smirks when I realise what he did. I slide back off of him and flop onto my stomach.
"How do you feel if we hang out at mine, you can stay the night?" He sounds a little nervous but I'm quick to accept the offer.
"Yeah, I'd love that!" My smile takes over.I take his hand in mine and run to my room. He throws my backpack on my bed and I throw my clothes into the bag along with my tooth brush, hair brush and other necessities. I zip the backpack shut and search my room for anything I may have forgotten. Nope. I had everything I needed.
Romeo holds me by my waist as we go downstairs. I drop my things at the front door and sit on the bottom stair to put my shoes on. I slip the white shoe over my foot and stand back up.
"Let me tell my Dad I'm staying with you for the night." I peck his lips before I swiftly turn to tell my Dad.I knock on his office door and he pulls it open. He leans against the door frame waiting for me to speak.
"I'm staying with Romeo tonight... I hope that's ok?" I inform him.
"Of course it is, you don't have to tell me everything you do. You're an adult, you have all the responsibility." He makes sure I understand.
"I know, thanks. See you soon." I close his office door and skip back to Romeo. He carries my bag over his shoulder and holds his palm over my back. We walk down the gravel pathway and I slide my hand over his. He ends up grasping my hand in his and his thumb draws circles on the back of my hand. I playfully pretends to lose balance, shoving him into a bush. He gasps. He pretends to fall and does the same, nudging me into the grass.
Laughter erupts from my stomach and echoes through the air around me. My stomach and jaw ache from my continuous happiness. He reaches his hand out to pull me up but instead I pull him down with me. His head hits the grass with a thud and he laughs with me. We roll in the grass like toddlers and our laughter eventually dies out.
Finally, we reach the front door and Romeo opens it quickly. He takes my hand and leads me up the stairs. He drops my bad beside his bedroom door and I look around the room. On his bedside table I notice the photo frame from the airport. Inside the frame is a photo of us at the lake. The golden glaze behind our bodies and the pages of Moby Dick, the memories flashed back and I couldn't help but smile.
I remember how the other day when I picked his clothes up and how I tied his room briefly. Nothing had been moved since he had been staying with me most nights. I opened the curtains and a door leading to a balcony drew my attention. I opened the door and stepped onto the tiles. The ocean could be seen and if you looked to the right, my bedroom window was in clear view. My hands gripped the railing as I peered over the town. Romeo's hands wrapped around my waist from behind and I turned to look at him.
His hands grip my hips and I rest my head on his chest.
"What do you want to do for the rest of the afternoon?" His voice vibrates onto my head.
"I don't know, what do you want to do?" I mumble, appreciating the close contact.
"How about we take a walk, watch the sunset while we have a picnic?" My head snaps up at the idea.
"I would love that!" A smile takes over.------
We stumble in through the front door. My night was perfect. Romeo had laid a picnic blanket down on the top of the hill towards the view of a honey dripping sun glazing the water. We had a store-bought cake in between us and I had taken some icing and smeared it over his face. He gasped in shock and threw some of the cake at me. I threw my head back in hysterics and it was something I would never forget.
It was dark when we arrived back at Romeo's, neither of us brought our phones with us so I was oblivious to the time. The quiet streets of Italy were calming and felt so homely. Our laughter echoed, probably pissing everyone off but I didn't because in the moment I was unbelievably happy.
Romeo closed his bedroom door and threw his shirt on the bed. His muscles flexed as he pulled the shirt over his head and I couldn't help but to stare. He smirked as he caught me watching carefully at his muscles. I unbuttoned my top, leaving me in my bra. Romeo watched me as I pulled his shirt over my body. Reaching my mid thighs, I tugged at my bottoms to be left in his shirt and my underwear.
Something flickered in Romeo's eyes and he shifted his weight from one foot to the other. I walked up to him and wrapped my arms around him.
"What's wrong?" I asked, curious.
"Nothing... you're just so beautiful." My heart tightened at his words.I found my mouth on his. It's wasn't a sweet, innocent kiss but it was more. It was more, it was passionate and demanding. I walked backwards and flopped onto the bed. Romeo was on top of me holding my cheek with one hand and holding his body weight with the other. He slides his arm further to my thigh and I gasp. He takes the chance to slip his tongue into my mouth.
I tug at the waistband of his boxers and he leans his head away from mine, to read my expression. I can tell he's holding back.
"Are you sure?" He breaths.
"Yes." I whisper. Before I know it, he's on top of me and I'm breathing deeply. My hands scratch at his back and my eyes are shut closed. He asks if I'm ok every so often, the way he cares for me makes the moment so much calmer. All I know is that I'm safe here and I don't want it to end.
We are left panting and he lays next to me, green orbs staring into my boring brown eyes. He reaches out and tucks a loose hair behind my ear. He brings his hand and his thumb rests on my bottom lip.
"I'm so happy here." I whisper and close my eyes to fall asleep to dreams of the beautiful boy who's sat next to me massaging my arms.
