Chester's POV
From the day I bumped into Grace on the streets of New York City I knew that there was something there; what it was I didn't know. She's like the missing piece to my puzzle and we've slotted into each other's lives as if it were meant to be. Maybe it's all going too fast, maybe we're moving at a unpredictable speed but the three months I have spent with Grace have been the best months of my life. They say when you know you know and I'm pretty damn sure I know.
I wake up to an empty bed, after practically moving into Grace's house this is a foreign thing. I slowly get up and go to the kitchen in hopes of finding Grace.
"Grace? Are you in here?" I call out and hear a muffled respone in reply. She sits in the corner of the room, huddled against the cupboard with tears running down her cheeks. I rush over and kneel down beside her.
"Gracie, what's wrong? Is this about meeting my parents?" I wrap my arm around her and let her lean against me.
"Yeah. I know it's stupid but I'm scared."
"It'll be fine Grace, I promise. They'll love you and if they don't then that doesn't change anything; I'm not going anywhere based on their opinions."
She looks up to me, her eyes shimmering from the layer of water around them. I kiss the top of her head as she burrows into my neck.
"Really? But what if I screw up or say something inappropriate?"
I chuckle slightly and let go of our embrace so she's directly facing me.
"Listen Grace, we're gonna go out for lunch with them and they're going to see how immensely happy you make me. They'll see how much I love you and they're going to love you too. I promise it will all be okay. Now come on, we can't stay on the floor forever."
"I love you Chester." She kisses me gently and begins to stand up, making her way to the bedroom.
Four hours later we're standing at the door of the restaurant, Grace's hand in mine. I squeeze it reassuringly and open the door. My parents are sat in the corner and as we make our way over to the table they stand, the smiles on their faces reflecting onto mine.
"Hey! How are you guys?" I shake my dad's hand as my mum greets Grace. I glance over to Grace and wink, making her chuckle slightly.
We sit down and I'm scared that this is now where the interrogation begins but my parents and Grace chat away as if they have known each other for a lifetime; I could get used to this. We talked for hours, the conversation never dropping once and when Grace stood up to leave for the bathroom my parents just smirked at me. I could feel the blush rising on my cheeks and they both turned to each other and smiled. My parents had always been the supportive type, when I bought girls home they would always pretend that they liked her even if it was obviously never going to work but with Grace they seemed different, their words truthful and smiles genuine.
"You really love her don't you?" My mother said, staring at me gleefully.
"I do, yeah." My dad smiled at that and then put down his drink and looked directly into my eyes like I was a small child again- the look I used to get when I'd say a bad word or was mean to my sister.
"Look after her Ches, she's too good to be letting go." At that moment Grace appeared back in her seat and the conversation remained back to how it was before she got up. I couldn't help the smile that emerged on my face and as I looked over to Grace she smiled back at me, from under the table she squeezed my hand. I leant closer to her and whispered,
"I told you so."
