"Father..?" Roman asks one day mid-January. Romulus looks at him. "Roman. You look troubled." he says. Roman looks away. "Am I doing something wrong in my relationship with Virgil...?" he asks.

Romulus frowns slightly. "Why would you think that?" he asks. "He cries, father, in his sleep most nights.. Am I not..." he trails off. "Oh, Roman.." Romulus says, putting his hands on Roman's shoulders. "You have to understand that Virgil went through so much that no human should ever.. His mind is deeply scarred by his past, and the only one who can overcome it is himself.. It's not your fault, son.."

"Then why doesn't he talk to me about it? Does.. He not trust me..?" Roman asks, looking at him. "I doubt that's the case, Roman.. See, humans like Virgil, who've had an awful past, tend to keep it to themselves.. And the real pain they went through only comes out from their subconscious mind; their dreams, their thoughts." Romulus says.

Roman looks down, which causes his father to frown, thinking for a moment. "If Virgil didn't trust you, would he allow you to feed on him without a second thought? Would he trust you to hold him by the chin, even though he's said he doesn't like when others do it? Would he care so deeply about your well-being? Would he, despite being warned of the pain, want you and only you to turn him? Would he have accepted your proposal if he didn't trust you, Roman?"

Roman teared up a little and looks back up at his father. "I want to help him!.. I want him to be happy.." Romulus took Roman by the hands carefully, holding them to his chest.
"He is happy with you, Roman. I've seen it. He's... Happier with you than your mother was with me once I turned her..

"Aside from that, not only does he trust you, Roman, he's in love with you, for both who you are and what. Whenever you're around, he always ends up smiling at or with you. He hugs you, he kisses you, he leans into every touch of yours like he can't go without it.. And I know seeing him cry hurts you, I would be concerned if it didn't. But I promise you, my son, he is not crying because of you." Romulus says.

Roman hugged him, crying a little. Romulus sighs and hugs back. "Is there something I should know, Roman..?" he asks.

Roman stayed quiet for a moment before shaking his head a little. "I'm fine, father.."

Later that day, Virgil went up to Roman, turning his head towards him and kissing him. Roman kissed back, smiling a little when Virgil pulled away. "What was that for?" he asked. "Fun?" Virgil said with a shrug.

"By the way, where did you disappear to earlier, my prince? You didn't have practice today, right?" Virgil asks, tilting his head. "I um.. I just went to talk with my father. Trivial things, nothing important, I assure you." Roman says, smiling.
"Are you sure? You were gone quite a bit of time for ‘trivial things’.." Virgil says, putting his arms around Roman's shoulders. Roman holds him by the waist. "I assure you, my love, it wasn't anything of importance." he says.

Virgil smiles a little. "Okay, Ro. But you can tell me if anything's on your mind, you know that, right?" he asks. "As long as you know the same, my love." Roman says, putting a hand on Virgil's cheek, which said boy leans into slightly.

"My prince.. There is something bothering you, isn't there? Please, tell me.." Virgil says, looking up at him with a soft expression.
Roman frowns a little and sighs softly. "What makes you cry at night, my love..?" he asks. Virgil blinked, almost looking surprised. "Do I cry?.. I just... Have reoccurring dreams about the past, that's all, promise.."

"Dreams about what, my love..?" Roman asks. "Well.. Being cut, burned, screamed at, shoved, pulled, starved, teased, ignored... You know, normal things.." Virgil says, shrugging a little and looking away.
Roman frowns. "Those are not normal things, love.. Children should be allowed to play, they should be fed, loved, hugged, praised.." he says, holding Virgil's chin gently to make him look up at him.

"What you had to go through was awful.. And I wish I could magically make you feel better, but I.. I can't, and that fact upsets me greatly.. I want you to feel happy, my love, I want you to feel safe, wanted, and loved.." Roman says.

"I do feel those things, Roman,.. When I'm awake... But when I have to sleep, my mind is trapped in the past... I've tried so hard not to let it be, but it just keeps repeating, reminding, reliving... It's why I don't want to sleep.. Every single time I do, I'm reminded of people who can no longer hurt me...

"Except... They are still hurting me.. Even though they're gone, what they've done, it... It's going to be with me for the rest of my life, which ironically.. Won't end when you turn me..
"A-and don't get me wrong, I.. I do want that, I just.. I... I want to forget them.. I.. I want to finally move on, I want to be free from the chains that hold me to the past... Why can't I just... Forget them...?" Virgil says.

"Oh, my love.." Roman says, hugging him. "But... Despite all that.. I've not once thought of ending my life since you kidnapped me.. You.. Gave me a reason to live, Roman.. Because now... If I ever did that... I see how many people I would hurt..

"Lily, Patton, all the others... But most importantly, you.. I'd hurt you... So again, let me promise to you..." Virgil says, taking Roman's hand.

"I promise, no matter how hard things get in my mind or in real life, that I will never take my own life in any way, shape, or form."
