"I really wish I didn't have to go back home..." Virgil mumbles to Lily as the final bell rings. He really wished his last class would continue just a little longer...

Lily frowns. "Virgil, you need to tell the police..." she says. "No!... I-i can't, I.. They'd know... Lily, they, I-...." Virgil stutters, grabbing his backpack. "Virgil, they're starving you and you're covered in burns and cuts, they're going to end up killing you..." Lily says with a worried frown.

"I... I have to go.." Virgil mumbles, walking out the door. "Virgil-!.. Please, be okay..." Lily whispered after he walked away.

Virgil sighs to himself, walking outside and heading home. Nobody but Lily cared to talk to him, so he didn't really have anyone stop him to talk or anything like that.

When he got home, hell ensued.

"What took you so long to get home?" his mother asks, crossing her arms. Virgil glared at her. "Gee, I dunno, maybe the fact I had to walk 3 miles because you won't pick me up from school, or get me a car and teach me to drive."  he mumbles.

His mother grabbed him by the shirt, pulling him towards her and holding his chin roughly in her hand. "Don't use that fucking tone with me, young man." she says.
"I think he needs taught a lesson." his dad says, holding the point of a knife to Virgil's chest. "... I just don't understand..." Virgil mutters, looking down at the knife.

"What was that?" his dad says. "I don't understand. I don't understand why you hate me so much. I don't understand why all you do is hurt me." Virgil says, holding his tears back and looking at him.

"Not my damn fault I have to watch over your stupid ass. I never signed up for this." his dad says, pushing him.

"You're the one who decided to make me." Virgil mumbles, rubbing the back of his head, as he'd smacked it on the wall from the force of the push.

"I didn't. You wanna blame someone, blame your mother, boy. Go to your room." His dad says. Virgil rolls his eyes. "Don't need to tell me twice, asshole.." he mutters, walking to his room.

Virgil was locked in his room again, holding his hand over his chin. He started crying silently.

He decided he's had enough of this. He can't take any more of it. Wiping his tears, he put his shoes on and stood up, grabbing his hoodie and putting that on as well.
Virgil unlocked and opened his window, looking down. His room was on the 2nd floor, so it was a bit high up, hence why he never tried this before. But there's no time to be afraid right now. It's run, or die.

And he wasn't about to die at his parents' hands.

Taking a breath, he pushed himself off the ledge of the window, landing with a bit of a painful ‘thud’ on his feet. He didn't stick around, no matter how much he'd hurt himself in that fall. He had to leave, now.
So, he did. He ran as far as he could away from the house before he had to stop to catch his breath, leaning against a nearby tree with a mildly pained expression.

‘I can't stop..’ he thought, grunting quietly. ‘I can't let them find me, I can't..’

Virgil took a deep breath and continued until he got to a park fairly far away from his house, sitting down on the bench to rest and get off his feet.
With a long, quiet sigh, Virgil looked up at the sky. ‘Maybe I should just finish the job for them... Then at least it'd all be over... I'd be free from them..’ he thought, then shook his head.

‘no, what am I thinking..? Lily would be devastated...’ he told himself, looking away. ‘I just want this to end... .... I wonder what dad meant by that... Blame my mother, like I don't do that.. What was he saying...?’

"If you don't mind me asking," he heard, snapping him out of his thoughts. Virgil looked up to see Roman standing there, looking at him curiously.

"What has you out at this hour? Aren't you afraid?"

‘Afraid? Of what.. Death itself doesn't scare me, pal, and neither do you... Though, you don't sound like you're trying to scare me...’

"Not really. I'd rather get killed or kidnapped than go back home. Plus, I thrive in the night. Probably because I have insomnia, but whatever." Virgil tells him.

‘So if you're here to do one of the two, please, just get it over with... I can't bear another day on this earth..’ Virgil thought, noticing Roman sit next to him. "Why wouldn't you want to go home? Why would you rather be killed? Don't you have a family?" he asks.

‘Can you even call them family? Does a family hurt their child? How would I know what's normal? I've never seen normal... Why is this guy so interested in me...? There's nothing special about me... He's probably just taking pity on me... He doesn't care, why would he? Nobody does, except Lily, and even she can't help me... Even with her, I fail to see the point in staying alive in this filthy world...’

"Sure, I have a family. A family who hates me and everything I stand for." Virgil says. ‘Don't tell him too much, you don't even know this guy. Change the subject...’ he thought.
"By the way, do you always dress like a prince? I'm half tempted to call you Princey." Virgil continued, faking a smirk to look unbothered.

Virgil wasn't really invested much in the conversation, as he was using most his energy to just look normal, and not drained of happiness.

That is, until he was asked his name.

"My name?" he says, sighing afterwards. ‘Why does he care? I'm a nobody..’

"Virgil."
