Midnight began to like Sunset as well. That is why she allowed Twilight the time she did, so she could enjoy it as well.
She liked Sunset because of what she knew what she was capable of. Manipulation, torture, superiority complex, and the demon that sleeps inside her. Not only that, but she had even deeper darker secrets buried away inside her. She desired both Twilight and Princess Twilight. She was torn in two when she couldn't have them both. One twilight lives in the human world, and the other in Equestria. One is a princess and the other is a scientific genius. Which is why she couldn't decide. She wanted both. But it was wrong, and that's why she chose Twilight instead of Princess Twilight because Princess Twilight had not loved her the same, or thought they could be because she wanted to remain pure and loyal to the kingdom, if she wanted Sunset then she would have to give that up for her. Princess Twilight wanted Twilight to confess as soon as she could but Twilight is different because she is socially awkward and a bit more introverted than Princess Twilight.
There was a fantasy of Sunset with both. Midnight knew of it, and wanted to give it to her if she wanted it.
In the end, Sunset chose whether or not to keep these things hidden, as well as erasing everyone's memory of Twilight's horrendous plan to diminish her relations with Princess Twilight sparkle and was to enter into Equestria. Sunset begged for her book back, the only thing she wanted was to just keep a part of her with her at all times even if it was rendered useless. She can't cut her ties between herself and the human world. She's too attached to it all and her friends. While Princess Twilight accepted that. Princess Twilight admitted to liking Sunset too, but she couldn't just give up her position of power, she would have caused too much danger to arise if she had stepped down to have a relationship.
Sunset instead confessed her love to Twilight Sparkle with her memories gone, she was not aware of the horrible acts she had done to her. Sunset forgave her, but she was also too damaged to let go of at least one of them.
Memory Stone was already used and was scrapped. Overall idea is still being processed.
