Naruto asked, "Why is it that only our squad's teacher is late?" The blonde couldn't help but look back at his teammates as if expecting an answer.
Sakura who was quietly sitting on the desk beside Sasuke's looked at Naruto as she smiled slightly, "Who knows? Maybe our teacher ran into a problem?" She gave him an unsure shrug.
"Argh," Naruto groaned in displeasure before his face lit up, looking at the chalk duster on the table he grabbed it before looking for something.
The pinkette looked at her teammate with a curious look on her face whereas the guy with the duckbutt hairstyle ignored his surroundings as he kept his eyes closed.
"Umm," Sakura said hesitantly looking at Naruto who was now standing on the stool, "What are you doing Naruto-san?"
"Me?" Naruto pointed at himself before he grinned, "It will be his fault since he is late!"
He jumped down the stool and put his hands on his hips and looked to see the prank he had done.
"Hmn," The raven-haired boy who had been quiet all the time finally spoke up, "A jounin wouldn't get caught in a stupid trap,"
Sakura looked away when she heard Sasuke's statement. Refraining from her urge to scoff at his words, she simply kept a shy expression on her face.
"There is a chance that the jounin would get caught in that trap." Sakura piped up, a timid expression on her face. Her voice was soft as a feather, not too loud not too low.
"See! Sakura believes in my prank! Hahah!" Naruto laughed loudly.
"You both are idiots," Sasuke scoffed out loud.
'No Sasuke, you're the one who's an idiot.' Sakura narrowed her eyes at her teammate who was busy mocking the blonde boy.
There was a reason why Sakura said that a jounin could fall into a trap.
First, a jounin wouldn't expect such a trashy prank being conducted by his soon-to-be students.
Second, the trap did not endanger his life nor did any of them have any killing intent towards their teacher so he wouldn't be able to sense it.
Third, the duster was a non-living thing which meant that it contained no chakra so he wouldn't be able to sense its existence over his head through chakra.
"Idiot," She whispered to herself.
"Did you say something Sakura?" Naruto asked and she gained the undivided attention of her teammates as soon as they heard something which they couldn't make out.
"Why don't we bet Naruto-san, Sasuke-san?" She enquired.
"On what?" The raven-haired male with onyx eyes raised an eyebrow.
"On whether our sensei will fall for the trap or not?" Sakura gave them an award-winning smile, "Since I and Naruto-san think they will fall for the trap but you don't,"
"Tch, fine." Sasuke said as he took out some money. "I bet 1000 ryo that our sensei will not fall for our trap."
"Sure," Sakura accepted the bet as she along with Naruto placed their money on the table.
"I'm going to win anyway," Sasuke whispered to himself, a smirk on his face. Only Sakura heard him and the pinkette revealed a mocking look in her eyes.
'You're wrong, Sasuke.' Sakura smiled.
Just then Sakura sensed a chakra nearby, it was equal to jounin so she quickly concluded that it was probably her teacher arriving. With their chakra, she not only noticed their presence but also their gender; a male, his height, his weight, the shape of his face, at what speed he was walking, the direction he was walking in and also that he carried a book in his hands which had 168 pages in it.
'He'll be arriving in 10 seconds now,' She concluded.
And just as her countdown ended she saw a hand opening the door and with a thud, the duster fell on the head of the jounin teacher as chalk dusted all over his grey hair.
"I got him, I got him!" Naruto guffawed loudly while Sasuke sighed to himself as he looked down.
Sakura could know what he was thinking just by the look on his face, '"What kind of jounin is he?" That's what you're thinking right Sasuke?' Sakura simply thought, 'You're so easy to read,'
Sakura simply looked at the grey-haired jounin, "Would you like this?" she asked, a handkerchief in her hand as she moved it towards her teacher's direction.
"At least one of you isn't an idiot," The masked man said taking the handkerchief and dusting off the chalk dust of his hair.
"You can keep it, stranger-san." The pinkette smiled to which the other nodded gratefully.
'I don't want that dirty thing anymore,'
"Meet me at the rooftop everyone," Was the last time their sensei had said before he disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
'Hmm, Shunshin Jutsu...' Sakura mused.
"Well then Sasuke-san," Sakura turned to her raven-haired teammate and smiled.
"Looks like I won after all,"
― Ryo is the currency used in Naruto. The reward for a D-rank ranges from 5,000 ryo to 50,000 ryo so I thought that 1000 ryo won't be too costly so that Naruto who's an orphan could also afford it.
