There are lifetimes
That I'm feeling
Though I claim
To flee their grasp
And I'm wanting
Though I'm willing
To see them through
To death -
For they make me
Feel responsible
To know it's
More than rest
That I'm passively
In my instinct
Pushing myself
Toward you:
How I cling
To closing spaces
And hinge
This heavy gate
In eyes of lighted pathways
In the dark of basement shapes
As you read
And lay to dreaming
In naps and trusted warmth
Without makeup
Without waiting
Or workdays
On your face
Leaving it
For all instants
That have granted me
This wish
For family
For some reason
To see you
As I've hoped
Envisioned
And somehow waited
As mother
Wife
And whole.
