You leaned over his right shoulder breathlessly as you read. “Horio’s Book-“
“-of Magic,” he finished for you rubbing his thumb over the front cover. It was a beet red book that was starting to lose it’s color. The gold penmanship barely visible over the clumps of dust. He blew on it gently, making the dust molecules dissolve into the stale air. He flipped the cover away, revealing the first page. It was blank. You exchanged quizzical looks.
“Check the other pages,” you suggested in a whisper. He did as you said, flicking through pages one by one. You can tell he was starting to get frustrated after the 20th blank page. He quickly threw it aside, as it fell to the floor with a puff of dust.
“C’mon Y/N. We gotta get back to work,” he said walking back out into the house. You looked up at the moldy ceiling. It was black and mossy, something those dark cellars in the scary movies would have. You saw the tiny book lying powerless on the old floor. Something told you that you should just leave you, but something also told you that you should go over and pick it up. So you did. You bent down, picking it up. As you opened the old-fashioned book, an interesting scent erupted from the dirty pages. They were off-white, but looked as if they’ve been read before. You went through each page, scanning each one carefully for any words. “Y/N?! What are you doing?” you heard Niall call impatiently.
“Hold your horses,” you called back sourly. As you came towards the end of the miniscule book, on one of the pages you noticed something. Your eyes instantly began reading: Now that you’ve made it this far, I would like you to take a look around. You did as it said, surveying your unsanitary surroundings. Is this how you want to live your life? This was starting to sound like some cheesy angel voice from inside your head. No? Didn’t think so. It was true. There were so many things you would change about your life. First thing being him. You wanted him to change. You wanted him to be the boy that you fell in love with way back then. You wanted him back. It’s been more than a year since it first happened, but you never got over it. When bad things happen to you, you cling onto them, not letting them leave your broken heart. You haven’t even seen him since then, for all you know he could look like a whole nother person. But it didn’t matter. He’s tried to keep in touch, but you can’t handle it. Is it possible to hate someone but want more than anything just to see them again? You were torn. Now place your left palm on the cover of the book. As silly as it looked, you felt your hand put itself down on the grimy cover. You flipped it back to look at the only page with writing on it.Take three deep breaths. Slowly. You did as it said. Stick your tongue out. You thought about retreating, but you kept your stance and continued to follow the directions. Wiggle it around while placing your free hand onto your nose. Now close your eyes and make that life-changing wish. You felt as your eyelids slowly drooped, closing themselves upon each other. As you repeated the silent words in your head: I want to be with him, because I know we were meant to be together.
“Y/N what the hell are you doing?” you spun around quickly to see Niall standing at the lit up doorway.
“Er nothing!” you quickly said dropping the book to the floor with a clank.
“Okay then let’s go. We have lots more to do,” he said as you groaned. Why were you spending the summer with this nut when you could be spending it with him?
Finally after hours of hard work, sweat, and multiple awkward silences the place was looking a lot nicer. The walls no longer looked boring and dull, but were full of cover and life. “See?” Niall said holding the front door open for you to walk out, “That wasn’t so bad now was it?” You ignored him, walking past him.
“I’m going home,” you announced turning to the right. Before he could bid you goodbye, you turned away from him, facing your back to him, and approaching your front door. After jumping into a cold shower, you fell back onto your couch. You sighed, exhausted. Your left hand searched for the remote, flicking on the tv. A lady appeared on your screen: “And here’s a clip from the boys Up All Night tour!” You groaned knowing it was One Direction. You had enough of Niall for one day. The now familiar five boys ran out on stage, pumped as ever. But then you noticed something. It was the hairstyle. You had gotten it all wrong before. You don’t know how you could have been so ignorant before. How did you not notice it when you had watched them preform the other day? How could you not have realized it sooner? It was him. Something pulled you out of your shock. Your ringtone was ringing from your bedroom. You sprinted to it before it would send to voicemail. “Hello?!” you cried out of breath. You hadn’t even bothered to check who was calling.
“Y/N,” you heard from the other line. Your breathing went dead, as you searched for words. Perfect time. “I know you’re there. And I just want to talk. Please.” You wanted so bad to talk to him, you would do anything to talk to him. But you knew you couldn’t, that you shouldn’t. Why would you want talk to a douche? Who broke your heart? Who flipped your world around? But who was your everything? Who you were in love with.
“What-“ you said.
“-Just hear me out. I didn’t mean what I did that night. And I especially don’t mean what I said. It was such a long time ago, but I never forgive myself for it.”
“You obviously meant it. Or you wouldn’t have done it,” you said as a tear ran down your face.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what I was thinking Y/N. I never meant to hurt you…” he defended himself.
“It doesn’t even matter anymore. You’re already en-engaged,” you choked.
“We are. And I’m really happy right now. There’s just a part of me telling me that you’re not.”
“I’m not,” you whispered.
“Y/N. Don’t cry. You know I can’t stand when you cry,” it made you cry even harder.
“Stop!”
“S-stop what?”
“Stop doing this to me!” you yelled tears falling into furious ones now.
“Stop coming back into my life after all these years! Stop trying to change what you did! Stop trying to fix what you did! Stop pretending that you still care about me when frankly I haven’t once stopped thinking about you! Just stop! Stop making me fall for you!”
“But Y/N-“
“Don’t. Just don’t okay. I hate you!”
“You don’t mean that…”
“I hate you Liam Payne!”
