It was two o'clock in the afternoon before the sun split the dark clouds hanging over [place] as the US team warmed up before their game with Germany. The rays of light shone down on the smiling faces of the women of both Nations.
Alex was excited to meet the two women that Kelley was anxious to be near - Melanie and Leonie. The blonde and brunette were on the opposite side of the field from the Americans. The Morgan had noticed the few glances to Kelley from the blonde German, and the inaudible scolding the brunette German gives her girlfriend for it.
"You look scared." Megan chuckles as she jogs between Kelley and Alex.
"I'm not scared."
"Why would she be scared?" Mal asked, passing a ball to Alex and waiting for it back.
"Logan's old girlfriends are here."
"Where?" Mal stops on the spot, the ball from Alex hitting off her shin and rolling away as the forward searches everywhere for women she knows nothing about - including what they look like.
Alex walks to the shorter woman, places her hand on her chin and turns her head until she's facing the group of German women.
"Germans?" Mal breathes out before turning back to Kelley. "Are you sure you're not scared?"
"Stop being so dramatic." Kelley grumbles, retrieving the ball from no mans land and playing it back to Emily who was waiting near Mal. Sonnett, having no interest in the conversation, passes the ball further into the middle of the field and jogs away.
"I'd be scared." Alex shrugged, not noticing the German's now walking behind her as they headed to the locker room.
"Why?" Megan asked.
"Well, if they knew I slapped Logan, I'd be worried about their reaction on the field. So I can only imagine how you feel." Morgan patted her friend's shoulder before walking into the tunnel after the German team.
The Orlando player was still unhappy to learn that her best friend raised her hands to Logan. Yes, it was before she met Logan and yes, it was an emotionally fuelled situation and yes, it had and has nothing to do with her. Except the fact that Alex loved Logan as well as Kelley. She knew the Canadian player didn't hold anything against O'Hara, and compared to Alex she was the mature one right now, but the brunette didn't think it right that Kelley didn't acknowledge the wrong she did.
So she made her life a living hell.
Out of love, of course.
Kevin and his little group were having an afternoon of sport as they decided on watching the USWNT game, then the Canada game after. The usually pristine coffee table in the Griffin's household is cluttered with chips, dips, popcorn and alcohol-free beers - much to the disapproval of the teens (minus Kevin).
"This tastes like ass." Jessica grumbles as she places the bottle on the coaster.
"And you would know that, would you?" Clay chuckled, rolling his eyes when Jessica flips him the bird.
"Fuck off."
Kevin was happy to ignore the squabbling between his friends and focused on the TV as the teams finished with the anthems and began shaking hands. He knew Mel and Leo, and knew the two women were playing for Germany. Kelley knew too, if her jittery body language was anything to go by. Her obvious nervousness wasn't aided by the seemingly angered German team who weren't exactly happy with the O'Hara woman, for whatever reason.
Frowning, Kevin continued to sit in silence as the rowdy teens in his living room continued to debate. He watched as Alex walked to the center to take kick-off, not offering Kelley any kind of encouragement, despite Tobin and Julie offering her a pat on the back. It raised a few questions in his inquisitive mind - why was Alex seemingly upset with her best friend, why were the German's as unhappy with Kelley and what did they all seem to know that Kevin didn't know.
His eyes glanced at the figures of Leo and Mel, but without a close-up it was difficult to tell how they were feeling.
"Finally, kick-off!" Dylan sighed, sitting between the always arguing Jessica and Clay in hopes of stopping an argument.
The play was evenly matched, neither team able to dominate for too long, especially when it went near Kelley. The German's were closing her down whenever the ball went near her, and sometimes even when it wasn't near her.
"What is going on?" Jessie asked as she let her body fall onto the couch, squeezing herself between Logan and Jordyn. The question was apt, it was running through most of the player's minds as they watched the US vs Germany.
It was almost halfway through the second half and it was clear that Kelley was getting a certain amount of attention from the German national team. There were a few shoving matches, most split up by the referee and a few by the US team, mainly Julie and Megan.
The camera also caught Alex and Kelley having a few words with one another, which only added to the confusion.
"It's not my fault." Alex raised her hands in a surrender motion.
"Oh come on, they heard you when they were walking to the locker room!" Kelley argued back, pointing to the few German players surrounding them as they nodded.
"I didn't know they were there!" Alex walks away, leaving Kelley near the linesman and a few Germans.
"You shouldn't blame your friend." Kelley heard a German accent. "You're the one that hurt Logan."
"She's a grown woman, she can defend herself." Kelley grumbled, not noticing the looks from Mel or the clenched jaw of Leo.
"She can. But don't you defend your friends, too?"
Kelley didn't answer, she instead just wished Logan had went to a different country when she left almost five years ago. Why did it have to be Germany?
Kevin continued to watch the screen closely, ignoring his friends as they bickered - nothing unusual - but made a mental note to himself to check in with his sister, and ask Kelley why everyone seems angry at her."I'd hate to be Kelley," Jessica laughs.
"Same. They all seem to hate her."
A/N - If you had to choose...
1. Kelley
2. Mel x Leo
3.....Other?
