Shaking his head, Nexus ordered, "Again. Remember, you are an Angel."
I nodded, ashamed I had failed so soon.
I hovered in the air, preparing for his next attack. I heard a buzz as an arrow came straight towards me. I flipped out of reach, not noticing another arrow come hurling towards me from the left. Reacting too late, I felt it hit my side, sending me flying in the air. I spread my wings, halting me, allowing me to stop before I hit the wall.
"Good," he encouraged.
I felt myself slowly begin to relax for a second before I tensed up, hearing the pop of a gun fire. I spun to see Narxus zooming in and out of my gaze as he appeared in a different corner of the Stadium, firing a shot each time. I sucked in air as I realized shots were coming at me from six different directions, front, back, left, right, up, and down. There was no escape. I thought frantically for a way out as the shots neared me. I curled up, wrapping my legs to my chest as I wrapped my wings around my entire body. I closed my eyes, imagining the rubber bullets splitting in half. I opened my eyes to see each bullet shatter, raining down to the ground as I remained untouched. I breathed a sigh of relief, letting down my guard for a brief second. That second was all I needed as a gas bomb came at me from behind, shattering into my back. I became engulfed in the gas, struggling for a brief second. In my desperation, I reached out for air. Not realizing what I was doing, I felt air rush into my lungs as I saw the gas start to move away from me, air rushing around me embracing me with life. I gasped as I realized the Earth was coming to my rescue. I had used my witch powers.
I looked down to see Narxus looking up at me, silently. I let myself drop down, landing gently beside him, avoiding his gaze.
"I was afraid this would happen. You've tapped into all of your powers there's no way you can learn to control the use of one at a time within two days." He paced, deep in thought for a few minutes as I watched silently, unsure of what to say.
He finally stopped, turning to me before saying, "There's nothing we can do but train as hard as we can."
We practiced for another hour as I lasted longer and longer without tapping into my other powers. Things were starting to look up as I improved my control.
Noticing our time had come to an end, Nexus said, "We'll continue tomorrow," before disappearing out the door.
I walked over to where I had placed my phone near the wall, picking it up. A text from Zion was awaiting me.
Text me when you're done with class
Done.
I stared at my phone, waiting for his reply before a typing cursor appeared. I waited until his reply lit up my phone screen.
Don't move
I fell back against the wall, sliding down to the ground as I waited. I was exhausted from training with Narxus. He really knew how to keep me on my toes.
Zion zipped through the door, heading towards me.
"Hey."
"I won my battle. I have skill assessments in two days," I blurted out.
Noticing his forehead start to crease into a worry lines, I quickly said, "Narxus is teaching me how to control my powers and only use my Angel side."
"And you think it'll work?"
"I hope," I answered honestly. My stomach boomed, reminding me how very empty it was.
"Close your eyes."
"What? Why?" I asked suspiciously
He gave me a look that told me he wasn't going to take no for an answer so I obliged. I felt his hand slip into mine, whisking me away. I felt myself land on softer ground with a thump.
