Chapter XXV

Tas threw the first spiked ball, starting the chaos. He sent it flying towards Carina, who was nearest to him. She ducked, dodging it as it continued to fly through the air towards Jackson.

"Jackson!" he yelled out

Jackson jumped up, narrowly missing the ball before regaining his balance.

"Tas, you know the goal is to attack people who aren't on your team?" remarked Carina, sarcastically.

I looked to my left to see Star swinging her sword at Fres, locked in a sword battle.

"Hey, Saron," called out Bonnie, "take this." She shot the gun sending a rubber bullet straight at me. I brought my wings in front of me, deflecting it easily.

"Is that all you got?" I mocked.

She snarled at me before lunging herself at me at full speed. I flipped backwards, out of her reach sending her crashing into Lila. Lila, enraged, redirected her attack at Bonnie, hurling a spiked ball at her. I searched the air to find Jeremy flying towards me as a gas bomb followed him. I grabbed an arrow, cocking my arm back shooting the arrow straight at the gas bomb to halt its path.

"Jeremy, DOWN!" I screamed as I lunged myself at him to push him out of the path of the spreading gas bomb. I slammed into him just in time because shortly after my arrow made impact, smashing the gas bomb and causing it to explode into Rue who was too close to dodge it.

"RUE!" yelled Bethany, rushing towards her to grab her in the air before she dropped. I caught Star's eye, still locked in a sword fight with Fres. She extended her leg, kicking Fres in the chest and knocking the breath out of him. Not expecting it, he lost grip of the sword as it went flying down to the arena. Star, jumping into Bethany's path, crashed into her, not allowing her to catch Rue. As a result, Rue began to sink, dropping through the air and eliminating her team.

"Team B is out." Mr. Sharp shouted.

Bethany and Carina flew towards the corner to join the class as the battle continued.

I looked around to Jeremy who was hovering in the air, scanning the air for who to attack next. Star hurled a spiked ball at Thomas, whose back was turned as he was caught in a duel with Lila. Noticing Star's attack, Ben yelled , "Thomas, behind you."

Foolishly, Thomas whirled around, jerking his head away from the ball yet leaving himself open for Lila to attack. Lila drew back her wing, bringing it down on Thomas hard, knocking him senseless.

Elisha, nearby swooped in catching Thomas in the air before he could sink. Tas, noticing Elisha was now weak, shaking under Thomas's weight shot a succession of bullets at her, which she all dodged. Jackson, flying over to double team Elisha, flew in directly at her. She raised her hands, instinctively waiting for an attack. Instead of attacking her head on, at the last second, Jackson smacked Thomas straight off Elisha's back with his wing, causing him to slide off, eliminating their team as well.

Mr. Sharp hollered, "Team C. You are also out."

I heard flapping wings nearing me, spinning around to see Bonnie, gas bomb in hand, nearing me. I pulled out my gas bomb, challenging her to throw it at me. She lowered her arm, waiting for me to make a move. We stood there, hovering, both refusing to act first. I waited for something, anything to distract her as my mind wandered to Jeremy and Star. A rubber bullet came flying in the air, soaring over her. I waited until the perfect moment when it was above her head, to split it clean in half falling on top of her head. Thinking she was being attacked from behind, she swirled around. That was all I needed to slink away. I searched the air for Jeremy who was holding his own against Tas. I spotted Star, being attacked by both Fres and Wes from the front and back. Rushing in to help her, I cocked back my arm, releasing an arrow in the air, hitting the gas bomb in Fres's hand that he meant to chuck at Star. Exploding, Fres was surrounded by the gas. Abandoning his attack with Star, Wes headed straight for Fres, preparing to catch him as he struggled to fight consciousness inside the gas. Star, taking advantage of his distraction, pulled out a gas bomb, chucking it at him as well. It hit him, surrounding him as well. Lila, flying at full speed, began to slow once she realized it was hopeless to help both of her team members. Fres and Wes dropped from the air in unison.
